Quickly convinced by its use, I by cons just as quickly disillusioned in using my wireless devices with USB connectors.
Let me explain. In general, this KVM perfectly on a standard wireline use. Equipped with VGA / digital DVI displays, I am perfectly able to connect my pc with VGA / DVI adapter to use both ports of KVM.
Wired to the keyboard, I began to have some doubts when I noticed the entry difficulties. Basically, you have to repeatedly press buttons sometimes for a strike. Imagine the password input, can be hair pulling. Conversely, sometimes a shot will bring up 2 or 3 characters. I have not managed to determine the cause but the behavior is the same with wireless keyboard.
Another difficulty, micro cuts for wireless devices, probably due to a lack of consistency USB power (for the connector which then provides wireless with devices). Sometimes we just lose the connection and the mouse does not respond, or it's the keyboard that is acting up: /
Finally, in some cases (on a few months), I could see a loss of video quality (on films / videos rightly) see flickering (signal trembling) during switching, events related to the KVM box (beeps, fluctuation of power supplies, etc ...). I'm sure my connectivity, security and quality for all of my cables.
In summary:
* The (++)
- Solid and sturdy Case
- Comprehensive input connectors for 1 main driving position 4 positions (principles KVM) sharing screen, keyboard, mouse, 4 USB ports (two for keyboard / mouse) and microphone / headphone / audio
- Two types of screens ports (VGA + DVI-I)
- Control / dual screen computers Switching (a must for me with my two 27 ")
- Relatively compact (13 x 22 x 6 cm)
- 3 years warranty
- The StarTech Support is nice and configuration help needed
* The (-):
- No USB3.0 (USB 2.0 only)
- While both DVI-I (analog mode) and DVI-D (digital only) are supported by the KVM, both source PCs must output the same signal type for proper switching.
- Bugs and cuts with wireless devices (USB, micro cuts?)
- Switching Problems USB printers / Device USB cable connection Photo
- No cable supplied (in fact it is normal and classic but watch suddenly it is not a turnkey solution and wiring inflate the bill)
- Latency when typing (wired or wireless)
- Degradation of video signals / monitors (flickering)
- Quality / high price
Frankly, I could not stand very long difficulties. For lazy (lots of wiring), I gave up my setup one month but I went back to my old solution (which does not support 3 positions alas). Just the concerns keyboards and cuts are very unpleasant to deal with, whether in office use, video or play.
No doubt I am a bit harsh, but I invite discerning connoisseurs including myself to go their way.
If these inconveniences do not scare you and you do not plan to usb wireless configuration mode, then you can take a chance on your own risk ... That said, a simple two KVM stations in sufficient standard users a large majority of cases.
This is the first product StarTech disappoints me deeply (also the most expensive, it is even more demanding at: p)
