The Tension and the Spark (Audio CD)

Customer Review

The music of Savage Garden I only really discovered when the band had already disbanded, but the two albums of the Australian duo I have grown thanks to the catchy melodies and the partly profound lyrics quickly to the heart.
By Darren Hayes's first solo album "spin" I was a little disappointed because it did not want to follow 100% of the tradition of Savage Garden sounds. To me sounded like the ballads, and the few dance numbers not pulled me with really. In addition, it became clear just when the faster pieces that Darren Hayes tried with this album over long distances to try to emulate one of his great idols - but to the genius of Michael Jackson he did not yet arrived. (Who wants to know what I mean, let him hear yourself about the beginning of "Creepin 'Up On You" at:. Anyone who is familiar with Jackson's vocal style, this is a smile can not suppress)
Overall, my impression of his Erstlingsswerks: Good average, some nice melodies - by no means bad, but not really outstanding.
Now finally to "The Tension And The Spark":
This new album, I looked forward with joyful anticipation contrary, offered but the previous lot of development potential and showed that the artist was extremely talented. So I put the CD on and pulled me with the headphones back in a cozy corner ... and was immediately (!) Just completely thrilled! Darren Hayes away on the new album by the sound of "spin", let alone that of the Savage Garden albums, but finds anscheined finally entirely to himself; He leaves the listener with a deeper insight into his soul, than ever before.
With the first line of the first song "Darkness" is clear that a lyrically here much more is offered, as in a 08/15-plastic-pop song. Isolation, longing, self-doubt, the desire for love and togetherness - these are some of the dominant themes that the singer sings in texts which are already a masterpiece for themselves alone. However, the music she raises to an even higher level, together make up the two Elemtente a hypnotic mixture, the times, sometimes forced to dance a thought.
Musically, the album is not something entirely new. It follows in the tradition of the more popular has become in recent years "Elektropops" as I'll call it. I would compare it. With Madonna's "Ray Of Light" that connects similarly artificial sounds with real feelings The first single "Pop! Ular" reminiscent of "Music" (also from Madonna, but a mere copy of the works of the Pop Queen, this album is not).
Hayes' strength has always been the ballads that make up the majority of the songs on this album. But here are the slower not always be strictly separated from the faster songs: At the beginning of the album sneaks into "Darkness" after a short time the song under woven Beat and at Track 2 - "I Like The Way" - do not remember you , whether it is to be a ballad or fleet midtempo number. The song works as both!
So Darren Hayes converts between the worlds of ethereal-spiritual to happy-pop. The album has a touch of melancholy, which might be some sizzles's contemporaries seem a bit too thoughtful the whole. "Pop ular" However, all songs are ultimately of the finer things in life and the minimalist ingeniously has no trace of melancholy - a maximum of Satire: It takes the media lust today, the casting shows and the dream of a fast becoming famous ruined generation on the arm. "I wanna sleep my way to the top / I wanna be popular" it says in the chorus of the song. But when listening to these lines is clear: Here speaks Darren Hayes not of himself that he has no longer needed. This man has talent and he proves on "The Tension And The Spark" so impressively (also vocally the album is actually a dream) that one can even attribute to him, the above-quoted lines were out of pure spitefulness on the songs of 15 Minutes famous TV show winner written. If this is true, it is definitely justified because it is an extraordinary scandal is that the songs of diverse talent show winner (and loser!) On the radio up and down played while masterpieces as Hayes' new album is almost completely ignored , But at least you can be with him to be sure that another, still better works will follow.
His first work "Spin" I see now being used in a much better light. "The Tension And The Spark" shows what he already had at that time trying to achieve. One notices: The man is getting better - his CDs are for me anyway the best export products to Australia has ever produced.
