In the winter of 1767, Galuppi at the time was already the 5th year Maestro di Coro (choir director) of St. Mark - so he held also the most important position in the musical life of Venice at all - was by him, as usual, the composition of a festive Weihnachtsmesse expected. While holding "Il Buranello", named after his birthplace, for several months at the Russian court of Catherine the Great in Moscow, but he delivered on time a magnificently crafted by Christmas composition from. Is narrated that their excellent quality and sparkling Galanz enthusiastic both the audience and the performers in the Great Cathedral of Venice in the midnight mass.
