Although published in 1930, this book is still a reference for any chess player, whether beginner or expert. Besides the rules of the game, there are tips on each of the 3 phases of the game and many commented games classified by openings. Personally, I enjoyed the chapter XXXI, in which the author lists and analyzes the different conceptions of chess (is it an art? Science? Sport?).
