I write this review on WD My Passport 2TB Wireless and it was bought with the purpose of a mobile photo store. I wanted to back up my SD card from shootings not only within the camera to the second SD card, but additionally like already stored on a hard drive, since I use two cameras generally, I think it is practical, the files in a central place to gather. And that is why I put the hard drive then also. Here my workflow looks like this:
Photographing (the first SD card from the camera is then inserted in breaks in the SD card slot and then comes in my camera bag and is "fresh" is replaced by a. So the images remain on the SD card until it next time coming at the camera, just in case does not function a backup of the hard disk. This is done with the two main cards of my cameras.
After the shoot, the WD is switched at home (I do not rule the way to the PC, but use the wireless) and all files from the hard drive on my PC postponed. I've had enough, the speed of the wireless network from here, especially since I put back in state during copying my photo equipment (battery charge etc. all must indeed be started).
After that, the collected images from both cameras are imported into Lightroom.
This way I use now for 6 weeks exactly and am very satisfied.
For WD My Passport Wireless as such:
I get you in December, but then they have activated in Janaur 2015 only a few days later. The app was quickly installed on the iPhone and the iPad. Then loaded on an Android Pad. All versions work just fine from my perspective, and I corresponding potential for optimizations see here as other reviewers, but from my experience with WD out, I'm just out of it. I was then offered a firmware update, which I immediately installed.
Then it went on my tests and I have to say that I once had relatively quickly reset to the factory settings the unit. Since no more problems.
Copying the relatively large RAW files of my cameras works well and reliably, missing pictures so far I could not identify. I also have, as indicated above, just copy and not move. Any additional services I've disabled because the task is as a photo tank the only field of application. Copying from the SD card will start automatically after a few seconds and requires no action on my part. Every time I wanted to insert another card, the first copy operation was finished and I was able to make the switch of the SD card, thus it must be held not for hours copying me. The battery lasts without recharging an entire shoot (average 4-6 hours), but I have for emergencies still another mobile battery case from which can be the WD use what I have of course tested previously.
While dragging the images on my PC the drive comes to a USB port of a USB charger anchor. Obviously enough there the provided power from, but to make the operation even charging the battery at the same time or so it seems to me anyway, because after no more than 1.5 to 2 hours and the battery is full again.
Conclusion:
I have put myself at any time with a stopwatch in addition to the WD, since all seem to be completed sufficiently quickly my operations. If you want to use the disk for a similar purpose, which I would highly recommend this. For further use, I can not put into the fire my hands, as I have not tested them. A photographer friend uses the same variant for the past three weeks and is as enthusiastic and has been able to detect any errors, so I'm assuming that WD has been able through firmware updates, eliminate existing teething.
