1. The quality (haptics, processing): underground. The packaging dirty (possibly a single case), the rubber glued wrong and numerous scratches on the paintwork - the clamping screw for the aperture ring is also canceled. The feel is more reminiscent of the first foreign lenses of the 70's - everything a bit too sharp. The label "Made in Japan" seems to be just a fake - something had never left a Japanese factory; the whole is unfortunately cheap China goods (for 900 EUR!).
2. handling: even better: the stepless aperture ring is used to, but works well. The manual focusing is also good steamed -
However, at maximum aperture the depth of field is so low that the evaluation and adjustment of the sharpness becomes a problem. This only works well with the viewfinder (NEX7 or NEX6) and "focus Peeking" - the use with the "seeker-free" cameras is strongly discouraged. In addition, the lens aperture to about 2 is very "soft drawing", which further complicates the assessment of sharpness. The light intensity can not be fully utilized (in fact it ends at F1.0 ... 1.2) and the exposure tends in this lens for over-exposure at maximum aperture due to the peculiarities of the sensor (microlenses). (Here -1.3 EV exposure compensation must be set).
3. The image quality:
In the center of the image at each aperture the sharpness is fortunately excellent - with my NEX7's all just as sharp as in the in 100% view 50 / F1.8 - bravo! To the edge it is, however, then quickly disarmed; In addition, the imaging field of the lens is curved, which in flat objects (house wall) additionally causing blur. Until about 4 aperture, this effect is very striking and the lens can be used only for portraits or the like. In addition, the picture is very low in contrast. From Aperture 5.6, the edge blur is still recognizable, but about on par with a cheap zoom lens.
The "Bokeeh", ie the uncertainty representation is certainly one of the great strengths - it succeed extraordinarily cropped shots with interesting background - but it is designed.
Very important to mention: the lens can be not quite up to infinity filters (reported even other testers) - the sharpness falls to shutter about 8 from 30 ... 40 m visible from. So not suitable for landscape shots.
Conclusion:
The lens is a special lens for portraits and bad Lichtverähltnisse. Here is the potential large, but to raise only by experienced photographers. As an all-Kurzese telephoto lens is not recommended.
Because of the poor quality, I strongly recommend to check the part of receipt on the "acid test".
