The LED is light (green for USB 2.0, blue for USB 3.0). Who cares that can stick over it, for example a Fensterabdunkelungsfolie from the car kit range, because the LED is flush with the housing.
The housing missing rubber feet to prevent slipping on smooth surfaces, but even here there are remedies from the construction or electronics market.
Pleasant notice that the hard drive is very quiet (one has to approach close to the ear to hear it) and absolutely vibration-free running.
The included USB 3.0 cable is short (measured 47.5 cm from the plug end to connector end), black and seems to be of good quality (none of these thin cheap cable). To operate at USB 2.0 incidentally enough, a conventional USB 2.0 cable with microUSB connector. The hard drive was under USB 2.0 easily on to all of my devices tested.
Installed is in the way, a Intenso Seagate ST1000LM024, which is also known as Samsung HN-M101MBB the market. Formatting is FAT32. A reformat to NTFS is done by quick formatting in a few seconds.
The actual useable size after formatting (NTFS) lt "Windoze":. 931 GB
The time to spin down (sleep) mode is 3 minutes at the 1TB version and can (unfortunately) are not affected themselves. Settings under "Advanced Power Management" in CrytalDiskInfo program are ignored by the panel. I suspect the spindown is fix programmed into the controller.
There are no "unwanted" software offerings on the hard disk.
Here are the data for USB 2.0 from CrystalDiskMark:
Sequential Read: 30,693 MB / s
Sequential Write: 27 470 MB / s
Random Read 512KB: 20 091 MB / s
512KB Random Write: 27,240 MB / s
4KB Random Read (QD = 1): 0.447 MB / s [109.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD = 1): 0.938 MB / s [229.0 IOPS]
4KB Random Read (QD = 32): 0.525 MB / s [128.2 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD = 32): 0.931 MB / s [227.3 IOPS]
All in all, a noble and good piece of technology, which I can only recommend.
[Update 2013-01-25] I already received third ordered Intenso hard drive today (so good I like the part that I have gained me three of them and my old 320s and 500s 3.5 "-Sicherungsplatten chic on's old part) ,
In this another hard drive is now installed and that a Hitachi Travelstar 5K1000 - HTS541010A9E680. This achieved under USB 2.0 in about the values of the Seagate hard drive, though not entirely.
Here also the data for USB 2.0 from CrystalDiskMark:
Sequential Read: 30 568 MB / s
Sequential Write: 27,283 MB / s
Random Read 512KB: 19,221 MB / s
512KB Random Write: 26,239 MB / s
4KB Random Read (QD = 1): 0.413 MB / s [100.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD = 1): 0.715 MB / s [174.7 IOPS]
4KB Random Read (QD = 32): 0.516 MB / s [125.9 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD = 32): 0.666 MB / s [162.6 IOPS]
[Update 2014-10-11 Now have already bought the fourth Intenso hard drive. This time with 2TB. The 2TB Intenso is significantly heavier (253g to 170g) and thicker (20mm to 13mm) than 1TB. The LEDs light up not quite as bright as in the 1TB hard drive in the 2TB. Everything else Described the 1TB Intenso is also true for the 2TB.
In the 2GB Intenso a Western Digital Green WD20NPVX is installed, which is optimized according to WD for cool, quiet operation, and low noise and heat generation. I have the same WD hard drive already since more than 1 year running to full satisfaction in my Media Player.
The 2GB USB 2.0 Intenso achieved in about the values of 1GB hard drive (see customer photos). Here USB 2.0 is the limiting factor for sure.
