The 35er is a long time no longer regarded as genuine wide angle because it was widely used as a standard lens and even today is often used in digital compact cameras as the shortest focal length (mm camera equivalent). Looking for a fast and compact standard lens I had to realize that the 50 - go to my D200 already towards Portrait Tele - due to the smaller sensor in APS-C format. I decided, therefore, for the classic 35mm Nikkor. Does it have the miniature film an angle of view of 62 °, so the Nikon DX Format 44 ° still remain. By comparison, the 50mm offers the small image even 46 °, the Micro Nikkor 55mm is 43 °. Positive can I hold on to this Niko lens: only a small, barely visible barrel distortion; DX format no shading in the corners thanks to the large image circle; Nahgrenze of only 25cm (but without CRC-compensation); faster autofocus (no AF-S!); Aperture scale 2-22; classic Nikkor High backwards compatibility; slightly dimmed as well to denote visually very well up; quality workmanship - who sets out value: it is "Made in Japan"; small and light with high light intensity; low backlight sensitivity even without sun visor; 52mm filter thread identical to many other Nikkor lenses. What is not so nice: the sun visor is screwed into the filter thread, the use of filters could make a little more difficult thus: either aperture or filter (I guess, have at present no filter = 52mm to try out), because of the low Backlight sensitivity you came but without the visor. When using this lens on a digital SLR camera has to be considered in any case, that it was reckoned only for analog cameras. Depending on the camera model and recording situation you may be able to notice a drop in resolution towards the margins. Anyone looking for a handy fixed focal length that whether analog, DX or FX format, in about the "normal" field of vision of the human eye equivalent, is well served with the AF-D Nikkor 2/35 - even if it is not to the discount price of 1.8 / 50 gets.
Addendum: Also, the D300 makes the 35er a good figure. For close-ups (0.25 - 1.00m) with open aperture is obtained with this Nikkor in the center a good focus with a pleasing bokeh in the background, at f 4 the range of depth of field increases already visible and the beautiful bokeh is gone. Even otherwise well suited for almost all areas of available light to travel / Landscape / Architecture. For me, the standard lens on the D300 and five star value.
