Installation:
To configure I downloaded the setup wizard from the AVM home page, because the Fritz box 3270 is not WPS-capable (yet) - but is being possible in the future. The facility itself was with this little program in my view quite simple and straightforward. I have the setup wizard installed on the notebook, with which I want to use the repeater also primary. This is best done initially to an outlet in direct sight of the wireless router!
If it works there, the connection between the router and repeater was found, the difficult search begins for the best final location for the repeater. After many, many attempts "come from" the Repeater now one floor down and approximately 5 m distance from the router located in a socket. In between there is a reinforced concrete floor and there are also some furniture in the way. Here I have now permanently 60 to 80% link quality between the router and repeater (162-243 Mbit transmission rate fluctuates). I think that's ok My Notebook automatically chooses the best quality connection - depending on whether the Fritz box or the repeater is closer.
Until it was time, however, I have many, many attempts required - and also constantly optimized to the antennas of the WLAN router around. Now is the connection satisfying stable and I have in all the rooms on the ground floor now has a very good to excellent reception. Previously I had only about 20 to 40%, which repeatedly led to disconnections. In underlying UG (again reinforced concrete floor with underfloor heating), it is sufficient now, after all, still 20 to 40%, there was no repeater usually less than 20% or nothing. Positive mention I want the user-friendly user interface of the configuration software and the living room quite suitable design of the repeater. After many hours of work, the repeater works actually quite useful.
The most important points of criticism in my view:
1. The repeater is not only me but many disappoint, who have no joy of meticulous puzzling out of spark gaps and aligning antennas (as it comes to real-centimeter to!). This can only be avoided by inserting the quasi repeater within sight of the router, but he uses it? As recommended by the manual installation halfway between the router and the receiving device (notebook) works at least not usually. Reason is, I think, that the optical outputs and inputs of the Fritz box as the Repaters unfortunately are a bit too weak for practical operation in multi-storey buildings. Note: Some competitors (not all) make up the legally permitted values just a bit more, as can be read in various forums ...
2. With my newly acquired Fritz WLAN Stick N repeater collaborated incorrect. Under the Windows WLAN utility of my notebook with the built-in Atheros wireless card exchange between repeaters and Fritz worked without any problems, with the configuration program of Fritz and the USB Stick N, however, not at all. This is unacceptable and I have therefore the USB Stick N returned only once at Amazon, especially the announced transfer rate of 300 Mbit in practice were never achieved anyway.
3. The touch screen is a rather superfluous gimmick in my view, and disturbs rather than good, by repeatedly leading to incorrect operation when plugging (reset to factory settings). A simple LCD display with three keys would have been better in my opinion.
4. For the performance offered the product is quite expensive - would rather buy me today a second router and configure as a repeater. The repeater I can not return unfortunately, because I him - have differently from the other FRITZ devices not on Amazon, but the ... market bought. Own fault, because the service from Amazon for delivery and return of Fritz devices as always large class !.
5. While the structure as a pure outlet device facilitates one hand handling, but also limits the possibilities. One can thus the repeater not align on optimal transmit and receive performance.
Conclusion:
I have opened up the Internet with an ancient FritzCard ISDN many years ago and I am innately a big fan of the FRITZ products. I am using the repeater now halfway satisfied overall of the performance of the system from Fritzbox and repeater but a little disappointed. Maybe I had too high expectations. Still I hope that Fritz box and repeaters by firmware updates are better. More than three points does not deserve the unit at the moment Laus my view eider.
PS After completion of this assessment I have just released the next update of the firmware the Fritz box would be loaded. Supposedly now also the establishment by WPS function. Was not but anyway not so important to me because the setup program is actually working well. Maybe the other criticisms are still not resolved. Hope dies last.
