Ahead was indeed written and much debated. The first single "Precious" gave me personally already feel good, because I felt displaced myself in the Violator times back. But that album was not for me. On the back you can already read that it goes in the songs to "Pain and Suffering in various tempos." It's not really something new. The first song "A Pain That I'm Used To" is ever good going on: a really rocking opener for rousing But although I do not think that it is musically sophisticated and is suitable for the radio will be the next single.. The 2nd song "John The Revelator" has a good rock 'n roll feel and a good groove. The song could have sung Elvis. American demo fans will love it. Approximately 25 years had Dave Gahan wait until he was listed as composer in Depeche Mode. With three titles which is now the case. The first "Suffer Well" is a jaunty ditty that goes well in the legs and in comparison with the rest of album is almost cheerfully. Something slow and depressing is the next track "The Sinner In Me", but this melancholy, typical of many demo songs, makes the charm of the song from. I think it's great! Sad and danceable is "Precious", who song on the CD, the determined times with hits like "Enjoy The Silence" and "Never Let Me Down Again" will be mentioned in the same breath. Of course, Martin Gore singing two songs may, where he indeed puts a lot of feeling in his voice at the first "Macro", but the song is somehow not as good over. "I Want It All 'is again composed by Dave and sounds as the track comes from his solo album. He is quite calm, quite relaxed, but no thriller. The next song of Dave's "Nothing's Impossible" and is absolutely grim and determined a hit in the wave charts. I think he's great, but for radio, he is not well suited. Class, Dave! After the instrumental "Introspectre" follows "Damaged People", the second song that is sung by Martin. The sound after the start of electronic sound production, but Martin sings in the style of a soul singer. Very remarkable! "Lilian" is again a very catchy song with a danceable beat. Could I imagine as a radio-friendly single me well. The last piece "The Darkest Star" is a ballad that then flows quietly and stimulates to dream. Much has also been spoken of producer Ben Hillier, who was responsible for the Blur album "Think Tank" and others, which gave me did not like, because Blur were too electronically there. Now fit electric and Depeche Mode but better together, which is why these decision was not wrong. And so hums, roars and clatters it on the record that there is a real beauty. When some sounds have been overridden, so I assume here clear intention. Many are likely to them already feel deterred, but Depeche Mode were rare Mainstream and has always been known for oblique sounds and discords. Even though many reminders on the album to their successful era, so do not fall Depeche Mode back to the 80s! That would go also not good, because it would sound like self-deprecation. The album sounds as could be expected of them, with a little more disharmony and oblique electronic sounds without copying the sound of old music.
