Not quite so bad

After my Canon IP 4500 had (built-in expiry date ????) given up the ghost due to a defect of the motherboard, I needed a new printer. Despite some very bad reviews I decided again for Canon, even for a multifunction device (my Epson scanner is even older than the printer).
After two weeks of use here is my conclusion:

Positives:
- The printing speed is almost as fast as the old 4500, even in high quality
- The quality of the printout is very good
- Which automatically open the exit door is very helpful
- The scanner works much faster than my old Epson 2480 Photo at the same - not very loyal - color reproduction
- The copy function without the participation of the PC is a significant alleviation
- The two paper trays function - against other reviews - very versatile; I use eg in the lower compartment and normal paper in the rear compartment, the back of used paper (or similar for Internet printouts). If I need a photo printout, I lay back easy photo paper, and then prints. For this purpose I have defined more than one printer under Windows 7, I can select with a mouse click.
- It was important to me, the CD printing, the designer works well with the supplied program well, but also with the Nero Cover

Negatives:
- The well-known office problem printhead cleaning, but felt not occur much more frequently than with my old 4500, it is relative clear when one takes ink of third party such as Digital Revolution or icolor
- At the old printers there were in the maintenance menu a setting for automatic switching on and off of the printer, that is running PC was the printer on standby and is turned on automatically when a print job. This feature has been replaced with a button only to switch off. You have the printer now so always manually turn on (is probably with the built-in scanner together).

Conclusion: A solid piece of equipment with many features and smaller weaknesses. Here, the ink wastage problem is the biggest but also the oldest. In my experience (already several years), the cartridges get smaller at the same price and the printhead cleaning more frequently (which are the printer manufacturer as well live? ;-)). Especially from last reason, there is the Punktabzu.
