Domino effect is a long novel by Alex Scarrow which follows the domino theory. Both books can be read separately, dailleurs what I did. The domino theory tells the collapse of our society while Domino effect talking about reconstruction.
In this post-apocalyptic thriller, the author depicts the fall of our society to warn us against its excesses. It combines very realistic current two fears: terrorism and the lack of oil.
"The global economy was like a perfectly oiled engine, like a formula 1. Created to offer the best performance, the maximum benefit, but only under ideal conditions. [...] So obviously, it works without problems on a perfect asphalt track. But it's not great when you have to manage potholes or crossing a muddy field full of bumps. That's what our world looked like - a well oiled engine to gain maximum profits. That's it. Effective, but very fragile. No money was never invested in what does not generate any profit margins as safety or emergency system. No money lost in boring details like storage or emergency supplies. "
With a clever and sharp pen, it propels us into a world devastated by human stupidity. We discover it through the adventures of a mother and her daughter. Jenny, the mother, is strong and stubborn. She created the community on the platforms and is fighting for its survival. Leona, his daughter, was shattered by the events, and life does not have much interest in his eyes. It regrets the past and hope that the end of his ordeal.
Following these two exceptional women, the author will review a number of human baseness but also qualities. He presents things in a direct way, making some crossings unbearable. It is so plausible that it becomes scary. Captivated by the action and seduced by the characters, it vibrates from the first to the last page.
To conclude, I loved this black and realistic book that forces us to reflect on our society. After reading this, I obtained the domino theory that I read with great pleasure. However, due to the very high hardness of the book, I recommend the book to an informed public.
