Okay if WD could opt times

I bought two of these disks at Amazon, the one in May 2010, the other in December 2010. During this period the manufacturer Western Digital (WD) has apparently changed the production of plate, so that the pictures on the Amazon side not agree more. This applies especially to the USB port while the erstgekauften model nor a standard mini-B connector on the hard drive was available, this is unfortunately given way to a proprietary, flatter port in the current version, so one cable supplied no longer (such as the 1.8m have ordered me AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A / Mini-B adapter cable) can exchange so easily against another standard USB cable. Why WD has changed me at all reveals itself, because space for a standard connection would be there without any problems.

A longer cable is for many purposes, but highly recommended, for example, on my Samsung TV with an integrated media player. Here sits the USB port in the upper range equipment, so that the hard drive "dangling" with very short, supplied cable (25cm) only, and can be parked anywhere.

In addition, the new version has become a little shorter, but unfortunately also a bit thicker.

Otherwise, the board performed hitherto unremarkable their service, the transfer rates for reading and writing are, depending on the mainboard chipset, between 18 and just under 30 MB / s. The disk is clearly audible, but not unpleasantly loud and heats up moderately.

Too bad that WD without notice change the execution. The poor delivery (too short cable) in conjunction with a non-standardkonfomen USB port unfortunately can therefore be no better rating.
