Customer Review

Luckily I had in the past few weeks to test a few cameras: Panasonic FT-3 of an acquaintance, the "old" Olympus TG-810 and the new Olympus TG-820th This is based on no tester ambitions. I wanted to just find a camera that meets my expectations or requirements. DC still anticipated. GPS I've tested with any camera. For that I hardly use and our Panasonic TZ10 which was never turned on. The new Olympus's yes now eh no longer.

And one more thing - the partially expresses different Beuteilungen and experience of the above cameras can be especially large Qualitäts-- and manufacturing variations include within the model series. Under this important aspect you should also see my review. Many users of the above mentioned cameras have thus obtain more certain.

And now for the TG-820 - The new Olympus is a significant advance in image quality for TG810. Now roars significantly less than the TG-810 and lies also "felt" on the same good level of Panasonic. The reduction in the pixel from 14 to 12 million and the new CMOS sensor do the TG-820 very good. Color very neutral in the P mode. Similarly, there is the auto white balance to complain little. Even at high ISO values (600-800), the noise usually keeps within limits. The Lumix FT-3 is also there class also because it is somewhat brighter. But tend to the FT-3 has easy flauere shots and seemed a bit low in contrast. The old Olympus TG810 rushes significantly even at 400 ISO. The white balance is also in Auto function very well here.

On the TG-820 from Olympus I want the one nor the macro mode to highlight. I was floored. This little thing makes that amazing. I run even something macro photography with a Nikon DSLR and was therefore all the more surprised by image quality, sharpness and contrast even to the corners of the image. Of course, Full HD can record in macro mode. I look forward to the near future's Krabbeltier films in the garden :-))

One should also mention briefly observe the continuous shooting mode. This is fast on the road. In HS mode 1 there are 15 B / S and the HS 2 even 60 B / S. Both modes with 3 Mio.Pixel over a distance of 100 images. The "underwater diving trips" are a major triumph. because even the fast rescue the camera pays. Who has experienced it before to miss exciting moments because lame triggering technology, which will be very grateful here. The "old" TG-810 was relatively the slowest of the tested here cameras here. The Lumix is also great in the continuous shooting mode underwater - even without specific. "Underwater Scene Mode" class were the images.

If it is critical of the brightness (dark situations with quick movements), I can recommend the High ISO setting. The skin usually still out because the camera is ZW. 800 and moved ISO 1600. Then "rushes" there already something, but better so than blurry pictures.

Olympus TG-820 +++++ (very good image quality in this class what color and sharpness is concerned, less noise now, quick release readiness, fast series and Macro are great)
Olympus TG-810 ++++ (surprisingly good in color, contrast and sharpness, slow standby, only 3 B / S)
Panasonic FT 3 ++++ (restrained in color, AF very good, fast rescue, also fast series with 10 B / S)

--- Video ---
In the image quality of the video, the cameras take basically not much. Clear the TG-810 is (all other Full HD) something back with her "only" HD Format. However, the image stabilization of the TG-810 is very impressive. That will be much good again. I was surprised about the stability of the Lumix. On YouTube there is the odd video with the very impressive image stabilization Lumix FT. 3 On my "test model was it to recognize nothing. Sonics provides the new TG-820 as well as its predecessor because unfortunately only mono. Panasonic can already in stereo, where the sound came a little dull over

The big BUT is now unfortunately the following: I had bought at Amazon, the TG-820. Unfortunately, I had not noticed until after a few days on the computer that something is wrong with the image stabilization in the IS Movie Mode. This IS mode is not more than a Verwacklungsunterdrückung (esp. The "action movies"). When filming from the hand, the TG-820 has my movements or vibrations counteracted so strong that all object edges began strongly to flicker. Because I was in a hurry, I had to send the model back to Amazon and get in the shop around the corner substitute. The new TG-820 is now working perfectly.

We also recommend Magic mode with Miniature Effect. If you record a movie with this function, be from about 8 sec. Real-time 1 sec. Film. Mind you with Miniature Effect. This creates interesting time-lapse photography. A tripod makes sense since but is not a must if can stand up or support the camera. All in Full HD by the way.

Olympus TG-820 ++++ (stability now in second camera well, AF examined occasionally sharpness)
Olympus TG-810 ++++ (super stability, AF often seeks the correct focus, "only" HD)
Panasonic (scarce making stabilization manually movies almost impossible, well in focus / tracking) FT-3 +++

Display and Body
Shortly to the displays: The new TG 820, with more than 1,000,000 pixels front. It has a not-so-large viewing angle width as the predecessor; aaaber commendable but is the realistic color and contrast representation. This has improved significantly and is now on display much einschätzbarer. At least for me, the colors do not differ very much on the monitor. I found it very uncomfortable at Panasonic. The strong display colors gave way to the computer astonishment. It participates in the FT-3 also distinctly coarser by only 230,000 pixels. The TG-810 is as much better equipped and comes already to 460,000 pixels with absolute view stable display. Unfortunately, here too soft colors again somewhat and can be spiced up.

Externally, make all three a very successful impression and act fairly indestructible. Even with the new Olympus a lens cover slides off the front of the camera - also makes sense because you can plug in the camera time must quickly without having to worry the same do to dirt or scratches.

--- Conclusion ---
The cameras are usually quite close. So I can only advise everyone to make his own experiences. Forget the tests - even the magazines. Pudding is just about studying .... and if you are lucky, klappts right the first model! Even though I now here two attempts with de TG-820 needed. I now leave it at 5 stars because it anywhere nose has something apart from stereo and GPS (Lumix FT-3) forward. Bottom line, the TG-820 is a very successful outdoor camera that convinces in many fields. For me, good image quality, fast continuous shooting and useful videos were crucial. Incidentally: waterproof or were they all are!

I say ever sorry for all that I have forgotten or left also left out, such as haptics, menus etc .. Nevertheless, I hope all "seekers" to be a help Outdoor Camera jungle.
