Optical giant in miniature

The reviewed lens I use the X-E1 since this is available. For an APS-C lens it is very compact (6.5 cm x 5.5 cm long) and light (less than 200g). The lens feels thanks to the metal housing of very valuable. The aperture can be easily and accurately adjust, though I have slightly more common hard aperture setting on the Fuji 18 - find better 55mm lens. The focus ring is smooth and metered, although the zoom lens from Fujifilm is slightly better. The AF is a little slower than in the Fuji 18 - 55mm, but really minimal.

Also included is a chic metal panel with rectangular hole, like better than the plastic cover of the zoom and fit me really well for the retro look of the camera. Is somewhat disadvantageous for I feel the supplied rubber hood, this does not sit rock solid, and has a tendency to become independent.

But we come to the most important, the optical quality. And this is excellent in my eyes. Pictured center the resolution is fantastic at all apertures higher than the new, highly acclaimed Sigma 1.4 / 35 DG HSM (a few hundred more expensive + large / heavy) of the type of product line. In border areas it falls though slightly behind the Sigma, but I mainly use this lens for highlighting and not for landscape photography, I do not need the best possible resolution at the edge. I am not able to provoke format in Aperture 1.4 at high-contrast edges fringing to in JPEG. Either the lens is well corrected, or the camera performs a successful software correction, or both.

In my review of Fuji XF18-55mm f2,8-4 R LM OIS I made a brief comparison to this lens, with a somewhat surprising result.

Conclusion: Great lens in your pocket with excellent optical properties and great feel. Absolutely value for money, and in my view a clear recommendation. At least until the Fuji 23mm 1.4 comes.
