1998 and 1999 were the crucial years that the Underground Hip Hop America made known also in Europe. And that allowed many groups their musical output a larger (interested) almost bring audience. Black Eyed Peas is because only one of many groups, which does not mean that they listen to how others! On the contrary, they were announced by the American hip-hop magazine "The Source" as a new competitor for The Roots with a similar sound. But actually lie between the Roots and the Black Eyed Peas not only geographically thousands of kilometers (Roots from Philly, BEP from LA), no musically are crucial differences to note. Yeah, sure, both play Handmade downloadable music, that prefer to use live instruments as computer technology, but while the sound of the Roots but rather East Coast is typical, with typical elements of jazz, the trio (will.i.am., Taboo and Apl .de .AP) from the west coast less defined and can seem rather by Roots. "Joints & Jam" is a clear reminiscence of the old- school or "Karma" certainly influenced by samba sounds. What this album is, however, runs like a red thread the desire and love for music and hip hop, as well as the consistently positive "vibes" that would definitively prove now that the West Coast is anything but platitudes and gangster Machogepose. Especially nice is the brought to "Deut" or "Positivity" expressed, both conspicuous by very relaxed Rhyme Skillz and instrumentals. The yet sometimes sneak slight lengths in the album can not be denied. Nevertheless, you should but this album at least listen and use mainly on occasion the chance to experience the guys live on stage ... because there "lengths" or hints of boredom are völligst excluded.
