When I bought this CD, I was initially quite skeptical. Normally you would expect mediocre artists in poor sound quality in this type of DiscountCD of a "No-Name" label. In both I was pleasantly surprised. On the other hand the compilation of the pieces is very well chosen. The first makes the Piano Concerto in C minor, a typical work Rachmaninov for orchestra and piano. This is followed by the fantastically beautiful Vocalise Op. 43, No. 14 for cello and piano. The Variations on a Theme of Paganini are not to be despised. But my personal highlight is the Prelude in G minor, performed by Idil Biret. If you already can Cis moll prelude no longer hear, because generations of untalented pupils / students have passed on this wonderful piece, which I can only guess, to hear this. From the beginning up to the imposing dreamy middle section this Prelude is just awesome. Especially for "Rachmaninoffanfänger" who want to gain an overview of his works first, this CD is perfect.
