The EF 85 / 1.8 is a classic in the Canon program. Felt built millennia and analog time the classic portrait lens. In the age of the APS-C sensor and Cropfaktors the VF is suitable EF by a factor of 1.6 and extended mutated so to short telephoto. Actually felt too long I tried anyway with him and it ordered here.
The age looks amn at him. Completely unspectacular it comes out of the package. Black, simple and thoroughly honest processed. It is relatively heavy, despite plastic housing and provides a solid feel. The bayonet fits like a one. The focus ring turns tired, but not too heavy. The AF can be set to "manual" switchable. The USM funkrioniert very quiet and precise. Even in bad light hits the 7D with the 85er the Fokuspukt quickly and reliably.
Unfortunately, and because I have to get used to before, no lens hood is included in delivery, which really annoys me. It is recommended that an alternative model of TFE, which is just up clicks and does not have to be turned by bayonet available here. In addition, the lens hood from the accessory shelf is a few cheaper as the original part. I use it on my '85.
My '85 I really enjoy. Despite the length, I like to put it as a portrait lens. It blends well with the 7D and is great fun. The light intensity is sufficient with 1.8 and also creates good opportunities the motive indemnify. The 85er is a very "versatile" fixed focal length, which is both the portrait, as well as for various other areas is (the use in sport table tennis, as described here, I will try). The fringing the 85ers are subject repeatedly. But that share many fast lenses. As a Fade Out or the white balance to the 85ers korrigieren.Das Bokeh helps can also be seen. The price of the Canon EF 85 / 1.8 as well.
Short and sweet
Positive:
+ Good processed, solid lens
+ Also VF
+ Top imaging performance
+ Quiet USM
+ AF to 7D very fail
+ Attractively priced, despite the lack of lens hood
Negatives:
- No lens hood
My conclusion: No frills, just rock solid and mature technology, at a fair price. That is the concise description for the EF 85 / 1.8. With my 7D the Objetiv goes perfectly. The 85 / 1.8 has the potential to become my new favorite lens. More there is not to say. 5 Stars.
