The first attempt at first to update it on her laptop, failed equally. Under Windows 7 no connection was simply build. At home with Windows 8 on another PC, it seemed to be that displayed> 6 hours waiting time despite DSL I endured first patient and was in between shopping. But what happens then?
Nothing more, obviously. The unit then showed a few hours "device not separate!" and "149 56 minutes remaining" on the software that the device is not connected. Time the connection broke off between the equipment and software, the time between software and Internet. The latter allegedly because to go via a browser debugging or to write this review while perforce had to remain in range of the computer to start this endless running update again and again, went smoothly. The online connection was namely properly. Well, at some point you had to then stop perforce, because the computer as an electrical appliance to run unattended day and night and you still have a few other things to do than to wait for TomTom Enlos update orgy. Overnight the last attempt, the next day we went on then.
Such a user-unfriendly and amateurish programmed software for a device of this type has not come to me for years in the fingers. This broken programmed S ****** dirt therefore went after three days back and it was bought a different brand. Squandered two days in the bucket, endless hours waiting time for these lousy and user-unfriendly grits, I think it chops!
I myself use for years a TomTom XL2, in which all this was much better resolved, also works well. But this crap is just a joke.
In addition there are more - and this is said very nice, unfair advertising promises, partly already mentioned by other reviewers:
- For a 10 EUR voucher is promised, by whom there is no more talk later.
- Speed Cameras are printed on the box promised. With * is merely pointed out in a footnote that these are not available for Switzerland, but no question that this service is to be paid annually as a paid subscription.
- Is the endless update procedure then almost succeeded after all these problems, one must choose among the maps of 45 countries, only a package including a part of the cards, then, that these do not all fit in the small to device memory experiences. Would have liked everything to change if necessary, eg to load before traveling another package for the appropriate region. But if it has to loose schedule two nights at such half-baked software and endless download time until it finally works once, also just is not feasible when needed. Works then something is and the update increased the middle, one stands there without functioning Navi at the end. Na meal!
And to make matters worse, the Kracher par excellence:
- The TomTom software replaced unasked without any reference to the native USB drivers through its own, has here both on a Toshiba laptop with Win 7, as well as on an HP Desktop under Windows 8.1, the USB ports _sabotiert_. And brazenly also remains after you had this bungling programmed TomTom software then uninstalled. That one had to laboriously go in search of what this incompetent software developers since verbaseln everything in the system and ultimately enable the device manager the driver again, to find once.
Bad experiences with this brand I had ever made with TomTom Mobile, where there has never been responsible for my device bodied promised map updates, these were not even kostenplichtig to relate, therefore, the device was never updated. This made by now advanced road expansion, especially in East Germany then soon a new navigation system needed no British sophistication. With the XL2 that I use to this day, I was overall quite satisfied, had only twice update problems that then but the second or third test were done. This then takes even overnight, but its software is decidedly better and makes at least their jobs, sabotaged no USB ports.
Also because, although the navigation is borderline, such as when one is asked quite a few km before to stay left, several km should turn left until the next district, even if you could turn nowhere left. That explains a then also the strange driving behavior of others who pull suddenly to consider before a totally unnecessary and without the driver behind to the left, even though the right lane is free. Some even before the Elbe Tunnel, where it then on the A7 "stay left" is, so then yes all herumziehen creeping Pappnasen at 60 km / h on the 3rd or even 4th track and one wonders whether the on the highway in the tunnel are then still practice "hill start" as soon as they have reached the Elbe. ;-)
"Thank you" TomTom, for the verdummbaselte drivability obedient Navikäufer.
Overall, there is at this manufacturer massive need for improvement because software developers do not know their craft and quality management is not doing its job and Informartionen for the driver are partially badly wrong. That about USB drivers are replaced kackfrech remain sabotaged even after installation of ports, can not and must not happen is not to overlook even the best of intentions.
Who Kührt Anyway this bullshit test winner, who must have had a strange stuff in the tea to evaluate such a product well. For me, such a sabotage of system interface is a bottomless impudence, especially since this is not reversed with uninstallation and the whole update process to which are provided these drivers, not even halfway works properly. In addition, it would be decided to shorten, could be limited once on the main map updates and select the countries targeted.
Such a lousy product development and even more unfair way to apply the product, require a significant review like this, when already a star is flattered. I would have rather wished instead of a star, a red stop sign, so that other customers will be spared such a verbockte grits. I would like to read such a significant review, then saves me a whole perverted by the update process of the Christmas present weekend.
Actually, one would have to TomTom that the software without asking replaced drivers and thus sabotaged customer systems, still make the effort to restore the computer in accounting. Such blunders can now simply no longer occur. Not the point!
Update: The Lady now has a few days later received a Navi from another manufacturer. To spare her similar experiences, I made before the map update. This lasted well as many hours, but ran in one go, without botching the system. Meanwhile, she is thrilled to be a co-worker has bought almost the same device, it meant to be the best Navi what he had ever seen.
