I wish to contradict comments in English that says this allows installation on a blank disc.
My experience:
Yes, you can install this version on a blank hard disk (boot and bios enabling DVD playback).
Unfortunately, no message Microsoft deter you.
When activating your product (demand becomes routine after 3 days and then every 3 hours of use), the product activation code will not be recognized as valid.
Indeed, it is a valid code to update only.
It will be impossible to activate your Windows, unless you buy a new code suitable for installation on blank disc.
I am upset is an incorrect comment on Amazon, and Windows does not warn you not made a suitable installation.
But the use of Windows 8 can -partiellement- without activating the product.
My experience after 2 months of use without activation:
- This product is an English version: The Metro interface is in French, the rest of the English OS.
- Without activation, the Metro interface is out of service.
- No activation, no cookies are accepted, no identification is saved. We have the right to identify themselves to websites in each session. Firefox Privacy settings changes are impossible.
- I'm running Windows 8 with a Dell Latitude D430 laptop in 2008, with 2GB of RAM and a SSD ZIF.
- Windows can not install updates, or .NET Framework updates
- The inability to update the SD repair procedure make Windows enters vain repair loops that last 30 minutes and can not stop.
- Can I install and use Firefox, Lightroom 5 and portable applications.
- The Metro interface appears 20 seconds after startup (SSD)
If you are aware of the specifics of this product, you will enjoy a pleasant OS (in Metro or old), which runs even on old PCs.
Sincerely,
Florent
