1. haptics
The flash is an excellent workmanship and consists of quality plastic. It knatzt and rattles nothing. The hot shoe is made of metal, which I personally find better than plastic. It is supplied with a plastic hot shoe, but unfortunately has only one Plaste- and no metal thread for tripod mounting. This is for example the Nissin Di622 MkII better resolved in my eyes. The included case for the flash is excellent processed and fit perfectly.
2. Function
2.1 General operation
Generally speaking, the flash works perfectly and rarely comes the desire for more power. The loading time between two actuations at full power are OK, could be a little shorter, but that is bleating at a high level. The secondary reflector proves to be very handy if you want to brighten up a person or an object in addition by bounce shooting. This function bestitzen very few lightning!
2.2 TTL operation
To make a long story short, it works and is in perfect harmony with my Nikon D7000 SLR Digital Camera (16 Megapixel, 39 AF points, Live View, Full HD Video) housing. I had so far not a single photo that was wrongly exposed by the flash. If there was an incorrect exposure, the error was generally behind the camera.
2.3 Master / slave operation
The Metz can be used as a master flash for the CLS and completed this task with flying colors. The function as a remote flash in the CLS he met also to our complete satisfaction.
2.4 HSS
This feature is the reason why I have added myself Metz MB 58. It allows me to exposures well below 1 / 250s for flash, for example, as Daylight. It is clear that you have to live with this performance and range loss compared to the normal operation, but as I said, the desire for more guide number is rarely on. HSS is working properly, need to be made without special settings on the flash (the camera menu of the D7000, yes, but only once).
2.5 Manual operation
I barely use, but the flash supports the user by displaying the range depending on the flash output when the parameters with which you shoot inputting (ISO, focal length and aperture).
3. Menu
The menu is clear and intuitive. But it is sometimes a bit sluggish. Nevertheless, all settings can be very easy to change, without the need to work through when you first configure the same manual. The manual should of course still to heart, so that one 'knows all the functions of Metz and can serve (if you need them for times).
4. Batteries
The 58 AF-2 is very economical with battery, so in any case my experience. I use it only with Sanyo eneloop AA Mignon batteries (4-pack), allow for quick load times and a lot of trips.
CONCLUSION
The Metz MB 58 AF-2 is a very good system lightning made in Germany, which represents a good alternative to the system flashes the camera manufacturers in my opinion. He is not perfect, but very close to it it to be for me. Therefore, I give five stars and definitely a buy recommendation.
