Before buying I wrote Transcend to inquire whether the SSD has its own garbage collection algorithm, and whether this is good for something. I got the friendly customer service very quick and professional response that confirmed to me that the SSD actually runs a very functional algorithm. This shall be confirmed on OS X Yosemite: TRIM is not necessary and, incidentally, was also not originally provided by Apple (one can at all sites and WikiPages about Apple's Samsung SSDs TRIM and read support), if there is someone here who is therefore worried that his newly installed SSD is not as nimble as with TRIM and especially because the subject has been mentioned here repeatedly, and is judged as a negative feature. Is nothing negative. In fact, bringing the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test as compared to Stock SSD (for me) the following values:
5GB stress test:
Old:
Write 343 MB / s, Read 431 MB / s
New:
Write 437 MB / s, Read 478 MB / s (with TRIM: 435 MB / s and nearly 481 MB / s)
And that after a preconditioning of multiple copying very large amounts of data (SSD almost full, empty again, again full, etc.). So whom the three (some benchmarks say up to 30, I could not prove) MB / s really missing the can like a larger floor SSD from Apple order for a lot a lot of money (of course, not Apple, but by iFixit, for example) and the ingenious external USB 3.0 enclosure refrain from Transcend.
A little side note for installation of the old SSD in the USB 3.0 enclosure from Transcend: my floor SSD had stuck a thick silicone-like pad on the controller. Simply arrange and not to worry because Transcend adapter housing has on it an antistatic film, protecting the floor SSD.
For those who TRIM still do not quite understand, easy read times at Wikipedia and a few videos on Youtube to watch. Meanwhile also say most manufacturers the TRIM has become superfluous. Incidentally, neither firmware update still Transcend Toolbox are required to operate the hard drive properly. Are merely gimmicks.
My tip therefore: Not so long agonize buy. Is a super upgrade for older rMBPs. ;-)
