Is this rock for you?
In order to keep the usual kitchen knife (Aldi / IKEA / etc) sufficiently sharp, this stone is enough.
After sufficient water samples (min. 15 min) I tried myself to a few older kitchen knives (cheap Damascus, IKEA and no-name knife):
This could cut out of paper or crumpled handkerchief / paper towels. The paper buckled or crack while in the paper ball in the cutting process simply nothing happened.
After about 30-45min intensive grinding (my first try, mind you), I was able to cut the paper, and even in the kitchen paper!
And easily such as butter it comes naturally but now still, but that a number of reasons:
- It's just a 1000 grain. To further sharpen focus and keeping filleting knives and decent Japanese blade (Hocho) must have a grain 6000-10000 (addition) here!
- Edge / notches in the blade can be compensated only partly with this stone. If the blade is in a (very) sorry state, must first something much coarser ago (50-300er as the case grain), otherwise grinds you to death!
And now for the product:
The stone came with me without imprint (is better that way!) But was otherwise identical to the figure and as promised by Tojiro.
The stone itself is impeccable: No cracks, uneven surface, cracks or other defects. Usable dimensions of the stone be 17.6 x 5.5 x 1.3 cm. The full amount (~ 1.6 cm) is unfortunately reduced by the plastic cup.
After 3 knives I had only a very slight erosion, and therefore I find that it is a great stone which will last a long time!
Stuck the grindstone is in a yellowish white plastic tray the four small rubber feet (very hard rubber) has. The sticking would have been okay if the shell would slip:
The tray slides along with stone on just about any surface. Holds him not so real
Therefore, I have the horrible rubber feet replaced with hot glue feet: cheap, easy and is located now bombproof on virtually any surface.
So again in brief:
The Wasserstein is top!
The plastic cup served its purpose if it does not let go even the stone.
The feet are catastrophic!
Therefore, there is of me 4 of 5 stars!
