The EeePC 1005PX Asus is a 10.1 inch netbook. So, a computer which is adapted to be able to assist the user anywhere. The price of this mobility is obviously a back threaded performance. What are typical tasks for this kind of computer? Surfing, play music, write lyrics, save photos from digital camera, Play presentation, receive and send mails. These tasks mastered the 1005PX without problems and with a reasonable performance. Who needs an ultra-mobile computer to do to play, to process large amounts of data (images) or a lot of things in parallel, the need to clearly spend more money. The unit is well made and packaged. After the first start it runs about half an hour by using configurations. Then everything is running, but with a few extras from Asus on the desktop. This you can safely turn off (you can even turn on when needed). That brings additional speed. First, the matte display is striking that even in environments with strong light sources do not reflect too much. The touchpad responds relatively reliable. Operation with gestures you have to work out something to use them reliably. But then there is a significant gain. The keyboard has a nice pressure point and a sufficient stroke and after a short adjustment period, it writes itself afloat. If you send the computer to sleep, so the battery consumption is minimized to almost zero. The computer is after unfolding within seconds at the start again. The battery life is given something sporty on the manufacturing side with 8.5 hours. That depends of course on the type of use. Optimizations provides a small tool, which reduces the performance of the computer runtime. The display brightness and WLAN (module off) are ways to optimize the runtime. When working (write text, information from the net drag) you are at medium settings (performance, display) with about 5 hours at the start. A quite reasonable value. I've had enough slack to load at night. The power supply (also very compact: 8.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm) stays at home. My everyday life at school (PowerPoint presentation, preparation in NTPs, surfing at lunchtime, mail traffic do) is the EeePC through without problems. The computer comes with Windows 7 Starter. The system is technically the same as a Windows 7 Home, but has some "circumcisions". So the system is not more efficient than a "full" Windows because it works in the same core. The main reason is that this system gives MS relatively cheap to the manufacturer. So the Aero interface, with which I would but on such a system does not work anyway missing. Some other optical features are missing, but I can do without. Furthermore missing some Netzwerfeatures (ad hoc wireless) and ICS. Here you have to look if you need it, I do not need it. The system has no restrictions as to the execution of software. With two USB ports, a combined headphone / micro connector, RJ45, VGA, card reader (SD / SDHC / MMC) and a lock for a lock the unit for its own purposes is also well equipped. The FN keys were useful occupied and allow rapid switching off WiFi or display backlighting. Status LEDs on the bottom left to give additional feedback on battery, Wi-Fi, HD activity and mode of operation.
All in all I am very satisfied with the device. It gives me everything I need mobile at a fair price. On the back of the tray is easily accessible to the Hauptspreicher, so that one's performance can once again increase significantly with the investment in a 2GB SO-DIMM. A nice, compact computer, which (almost) always there to be a reliable and everyday jobs done.
Small weaknesses I see in touchpad that can be a little slow responding. I can get over but, and one compensates by everyday use and practice.
