The device is easy as with most USB barcode scanners: stuck Just plug in the USB cable and you're done. Drivers are unnecessary, and the device works fine under any other operating systems like Linux or OSX. This works because the barcode scanner to the computer pretends to be a normal keyboard - which in addition has the advantage that you can use the barcode scanner basically for everything, where you could also use a keyboard for data input alternatively. The barcode scanner is working basically with so really any software, even if it is not explicitly provided for dealing with barcode scanners.
Using the enclosed "Instructions" can make a few settings on the bar code scanner. "Manual" is here however rather misleading - it is basically just a folded A4 sheet with 54 configuration barcodes. Their function is described very succinctly what some reviewers have criticized yes. In my previous barcode scanner but this was no different, and even though you could still make improvements safely on the site, I have not counted it as a point deduction. Because most people will not need the configurable barcodes in my opinion, and who yet need to configure anything, which might already guess, behind which hides the Summary looking option. Most options are in my opinion anyway unimportant or self-explanatory; the only options that are reasonably interesting in my opinion, are:
- Beep-volume ("low volume")
- Language ("Germany")
- Desired End of line: Enter ("CR"), tab ("Tab") or do nothing ("Skip")
Before the Order at Amazon way, I have not all former "non-five star" read me -Rezensionen, to give me an idea of the possibly expected disadvantages. Many of these criticisms there I can not understand; either the reviewer was wrong there, or the manufacturer has reworked the meantime:
- Contrary to the assertion in a review, my scanner indeed a CE mark, a label and a serial number
- The beep sound is quite configurable, both the volume and the pitch
- I at least had nothing to pick up at customs
- Maybe it does not count as a real "account" with me but was well aware of the normal, typical Amazon- "proof of purchase" case - actually just like all of my Amazon purchases
Incidentally, I had already another, about twice as expensive but still cheap barcode scanner with a slightly different technique. Comparing the two models I have to say clearly that this scanner me with his laser beam much better like.
My only minor complaint is basically the green light, which lights up permanently when the barcode scanner has power. This lamp is quite bright, and can not be turned off or even darker by configuration.
ATTENTION: This review is only on the models with cable. The now available wireless models seem to differ significantly in some respects.
