I will only briefly touch on the experiences and my idea of how I value or evaluating the lens.
I have since 2 years the Sigma 10-20mm scarce F4,0-5,6 and was never really happy with it. The sharpness can be extremely strong in the border regions and to so some images were almost unusable. It was also the purchase as a dice game, so you caught no mon model. In addition, the Sigma is almost twice as heavy as the Canon 10-18mm. 200 grams hearing Although not much at first, but when you go hiking often, one is to every gram saved happy.
Again and again I read here as a comment: "The Canon 10-18mm is not a competitor to the Canon 10-22mm example, etc." This is now of course some bother, but of course it is a serious competitor to existing lenses. For me as a photographer, the only thing that matters is the final product, ie the finished picture. If that is true, and is also comparable, then it is clearly a competitor to the existing ultra-wide-angle lenses. If that außenrum also is important, that is metal bayonet, a diaphragm more, and so should be better access to the previous lenses. An important point plays photographer of course always that photographers always measure at their equipment ... This idea should learn their store, because as I said, for me and also for you, only the end result should include.
Now the lens:
Positives:
+ Compared to other super wide-angle lenses a very good price
+ Compared to other super wide angle lenses are lighter and smaller
+ The feel of the zoom and focus adjustment is very pleasant and does not feel overly plastic on. The movement is very light and has no comparison to a previous kit lens.
+ The autofocus is a STM and therefore very quiet and fast
+ As soon as image interference with backlit subjects
+ Autofocus makes good a measuring point with backlit subjects. Here my Sigma had severe problems.
+ In the center of the image sharpness is almost ran to the 50mm 1.8. At the edge regions, the focus can however slightly. However, still a lot better than the Sigma 10-20mm.
(I will later try a 100% of an eye set, then you can make yourself what you think about it)
+ Sharpness already good at open aperture. Optimum sharpness at f. 8
+ Images are rich in contrast and the colors come naturally out
+ Despite small aperture Milky Way images can be realized. (Which was very important for me)
Negatives:
- Plastic case
- Plastic Bayonet
- No matching lens hood available
- Interior shots realized by the small aperture with higher Isowerten. The shutter speed can be chosen to be very short.
- Image stabilizer as with most Canon lenses not the ne plus ultra
Photos will follow!
