Why do I keep it anyway?
- Price is ok
- Hard drive is quiet and has almost no heat generation
- The use of a recycled plate in the Playstation 3 I think is far more critical than for example in a notebook..
Once here some rather crude instructions circulating for shoring in the PS3, I have written together a crash course, which should be understandable for everyone as possible. Do not worry, everything is going step by step.
Before we start another clue:
Much of the firmware of PS3 will be stored on the hard drive, ie after disk replacement this is aufzuspielen with, but is not difficult.
In addition to matching the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (For PS3 and PS3 Slim, the HDDs other installation heights as the successors have) your needs the following:
- USB stick (min. 512 MB, formatted as FAT32 -> receiver to download PS3 firmware, more on that later)
- USB hard drive (for backing up the data on the PS3)
- USB cable for PS3 controller
- Feinmechanikerset (slot screwdriver, Phillips)
- Reasonably steady hands and time :-)
The steps are as follows:
Preparation:
- Done at first a current backup of all data on the PS3 (menu item: System settings / backup program).
- Important: Synchronizes necessarily once your trophies (menu item: Playstation Network / Trophy)
- During the run, formatted USB flash drive as FAT 32. The volume label does not matter, lay there, please contact a PS3 folder and inside this folder in turn a UPDATE folder. Please keep this one necessarily, because the Playstation else does not find the firmware.
- Googling best for the keywords "Playstation 3 Firmware Download", currently current (July 2013 Version 4:46) latest firmware can be found on [...].
- When backing up is through, the PS3 will turn off and remove all cables.
Conversion:
- You need some space on a table, important: Before earth, take, for example, to a radiator..
- In the classic PS3 we find the drive bay on the left side.
- Removes the cover for the drive bay with a screwdriver
- There comes a blue Phillips screw revealed. Rotates it gently but firmly, with an appropriate (!) Screwdriver out. Caution, the screw head is quickly "rounded".
- Is now attracting the hard disk together with mounting frame out
- Removes the four Phillips screws on the mounting frame, take the old plate out and set the new one, fixed the screws.
- The whole thing is now back in the drawer, the blue locking screw resumes. Replace Now even the cover for the Einschaub back and most of it is done.
Aftercare:
- Closes the PS3 back on and plugged into the prepared USB stick.
- Connects to the PS3 controller with the USB cable.
- Turns on the PS3.
- The PS3 is now bringing the message "Press the PS button to use the controller" -> make!
- Well the PS3 asks about their firmware. The wizard asks for simultaneous pressing of "Start" and "Select" -> also make.
- Confirms the location of the firmware on the USB stick. Should this not be found, the directory for the update file is not properly applied or the spelling is wrong, see above.
- The procedure now takes a while then the device restarts.
- The PS3 now behaves like a brand-new device and asks for some settings. Power here only the bare minimum, the first option "Skip" chooses this.
- Provides now the backup on the backup utility restores.
MADE!
The Playstation is now extended to tidy space, perceived subjectively running very disk-heavy actions now even a little bit faster :-)
I noticed that after the procedure next to my actual user is not a "user 2" was created. That was m. E. only a temporary holdover. Should this with you also occur to you logged in as this ominous "User 2" and delete the user account, your data is indeed the origin user.
A professional screwdriver can naturally suggest: "Yeah, if I retrofits the plates in my computer case and clones from A to B, the copying goes so much faster!". To which I say: Yeah, if you have the possibilities and adapter to do it. This guide is also intended to normal mortals lead to success :-)
Thanks for reading, it recommends further!
