Anyone who follows the interpretations Harnoncourt over the years, will find that he has come again and again to new insights. However, that should be in a good musician too. If you compare his first recordings with the current after decades, will hear tremendous changes and advances. I have to have gotten lucky, a SACD version. Everything about this recording is remarkable: Let's start with the tempi. Never one has the feeling that something (as so often) is rushed. Arias and choruses breathe transparent. The chorales tell at rest, with the pauses (Corona) is highlighted to reflect the just heard. The soloists are excellent reception, the choir sings excellently. In general, the articulation sounds fresh and new, one is surprised and amazed recognizes that it should be exactly the same. The CONTENTUS musicus plays beautiful sound, cooked up there and provoke nothing more, they play with great experience of decades. Harnoncourt is an ideal conductor of these ensembles. The sound of the CD is exceptionally clean and transparent. Much sounds like new, never mounted, wonderful Tempi with the highest sound culture. Conclusion: One of the best SACD recordings, I know. Certainly a Refenzaufnahme the Christmas Oratorio. We recommend.
