Yes but now, once the object in my hands, I feel a very mixed impression.
No doubt Salgado is a great photographer, nobody questions that. No doubt his intentions and achievements for the preservation of nature and the forest are commendable; only to consider this great (and beautiful) object that is the book insinuates a double frustration.
The first -already raised by good numbers lecteurs- want in that the vast majority of images placed in the foreground, namely the large formats, are presented in a double page and thus systematically halved ... one or two passes yet, but dozens of beautiful images so badly value eventually interfere.
The second is the general feeling.
The images are dark, very dark.
This is the style Salgado, and often very beautiful, impressive again .. just like the double pages halved, dozens of images and chaining to each other, each as dark as the previous one hand interfere with the effect (because the style effect is stuffy and too systematic in such amounts, as though it would appear justified and great about 2 or 3 images), second induces a Message ultimately quite pessimistic and against-productive: it is far from here a call to all relying on the world's beauty to recommend its preservation.
That one does not make me say what I did not say: the images are often very nice, some are falling; and quite honestly a dozen of them alone justifies to me purchasing the book .. I believe that after only a few days to open this book I would have more enjoyed a more compact work, presenting only a few dozen shots a little better presented, and the final effect would have been even more impressive.
