The author gets "Pride and Prejudice" about 20 years later, using Mary as the main character. That attracted me. Being a fan of "Pride and Prejudice", I always enjoy meeting the characters. In this novel, Mary is highlighted. What is interesting, because his character is underused in the original work. At the end of "Pride and Prejudice", was left a young girl with no real interest, thinking only of his beloved studies and always ready to make sermonts. It is found in women eager for independence, with a fair vision of society in which it operates, in particular the position of women. In a word, Mary more interesting. In "The vagaries of Miss Mary", Mary decides on the death of his mother, to go to meet the poor to write a book about their living conditions. This project, for a woman of that time, is very ambitious. But the trip does not go as planned. After being attacked, Mary finds himself trapped in a priest not very sane. The story is interesting and pretty much describes the living conditions of that time. However, this book puzzled me. In fact, the author takes the characters of "Pride and Prejudice", but it has not really like seeing them, especially Lizzie and Darcy. Indeed, there is a Darcy proudest, abandoning his family, even dismissive. It poses as lord and master. He makes all the decisions and plans they are respected. Qant Lizzie, it is tasteless, it does not really love her life and it seems that she regrets her marriage. I admit that I did not like, even if everything works out in the end. No doubt I'm being too mushy, but for me, Lizzie and Darcy can not be happy together. I recommend this book to people wishing to explore the society of the time, regardless of the characters. As for fans of Jane Austen, they may be disappointed by the use of the characters.
