Physical Graffitti (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Physical Graffitti" is the only studio release, which was released as a double LP. An album that previously cared for rather split opinions ...

But If you look at the variety of songs, this album is more interesting. It may have been because not enough old material for "Houses of the Holy" (1973) was present. Two years we had time to wait for this album. From today's perspective, it is one of the best and most distinctive albums by Led Zeppelin.

While the first album lurches still very close to the typical Led Zeppelin blues rock along, the second plate is rather quiet, partly jazzy, funky (The Want On Song) and also again something folky. "Bron Yr Aur, the" Boogie With Stu "or" Black Country Woman "(Divine good ...) are those typical" representatives ".

Highlights are initially "Houses of the Holy" (the eponymous title of the previous album!). A proof of my theory that some older songs had to be processed, which were probably previously not intended for albums. Or about "Kashmir". For that time, a very massive and dramatic song that not for nothing that appeared as the title soundtrack for the much later (over 2 decades) cinema blockbuster "Godzilla" had to serve.

Or "The Rover". A piece that fit perfectly in the time (1975). Guitar riff and song structure could also come from ZZ Top or Bachmann Turner Overdrive. A contemporary song for that time.

"In My Time Of Dying" has become a classic that was always like chosen by Led Zeppelin for part of the live repertoire. "Trampled Underfoot" comes across very funky and rocking. Also some justification a classic first-class ...

Or the magnificent fresh "Night Flight". Goes well on ... A typical rock 'n' Roller finest quality with heavy rock - strike. Fits the way somehow perfectly into the musical period of 1975. "Down By The Seaside" would "Page / Plant" quite able to compose for the Stones ... "Ten Years Gone" is an elegant pop Blues, who has no equal , Beautiful piece ...

The whole album is a perfect example of the significant development of the music of Led Zeppelin.

Although it songs are represented, which also reflects on "III" would have fit ...

By the way: The good old LP is a clear advantage!

Compared to something though finer, clearer, smoother and more sterile but unfortunately "Remaster" version, for example, of "Kashmir", the LP sounds much punchier, organic and round. A sound fun first class; provided you have a good turntable with adequate scanning system and a halfway usable hifi amp with good phono input.

Besides Led Zeppelin "III" and "Presence" of the most striking albums.

I feel bound to 5 stars because I just got completely out to mind my double-LP. Wers album has not yet, or not at all familiar with (!) To "Physical Graffitti" should definitely specify. And a Augemmerk on the LP set.

Of course, sometimes called the CD, because that's just unbeatable!
