I completely reinstall the machine to the factory state (cloning attempts with several software (Paragon, clonezilla) and restoration from the W7 image have all planted!).
The performances are good. The notes for the Windows disk is passed up, 7.9.
CrystalDiskMark sequential provides:
292 MB / O read and 379 MB / S in writing the first 10 restarts and then stabilize at reading 330, 416. Writing (Theoretically, it should be better for reading! ...). Very good but not the 550/500 announced by Crucial.
Operation at 33 ° C.
Full Windows starts in 20 second (Glary Utilities)! Appearance of office in 2 seconds. Click 4 seconds after pressing the "On"! Shutdown in two seconds! It's still very good.
Council for optimizing a SSD system disk:
Before installation:
- Forget the previous OS to Windows Vista (No consideration of TRIM)
- The SATA port on the drive will be configured in AHCI before installing Windows.
Before reinstalling the OS or cloning your old HDD to the SSD:
- Update Firmware (disk controller) if the SSD manufacturer proposes a newer version. Warning! The operation is to be done right after purchase or during a reinstallation of Windows because it is often destructive to the data and the OS.
After reinstalling the OS:
- Restart Windows Performance Index. This validates the assumption of the SSD by Windows.
- Avoid overfilling the SSD and not exceed 70% occupancy.
- Check that the TRIM command is functional (with CrystalDiskInfo eg "TRIM" must appear clearly)
- If the performance is not as expected with the basic Windows drivers, install the RST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology)
- Turn off automatic defragmentation of Windows. Do not defragment an SSD.
- Disable the indexing of all partitions on the SSD if you have not utility (indexing is useless on an SSD). Right click the reader-> properties-> uncheck indexation-> applied to all subfolders.
- Disable standby prolonged if you often leave your PC alone put on standby, avoid unnecessary stop the SSD. And stopping the drive in the power management.
Possibly for the "experts":
- If your PC has less than 4GB of RAM, you can disable the Prefetch function, Superfetch and move the page file to a second conventional internal HDD.
- Finally, limiting the space allocated to System Restore to limited writes to the SSD. (You can disable it, but at your own risk! Warning! You can not restore your machine!)
Avoid:
- Attention! Unlike a lot of tutorials on the net, it is better not to disable the write cache!
