When installing, it is really very simple:
Contrary to what you may read here and there, it is not useful to have a cable to usb / sata if you have (or can borrow) an external USB drive. We just need small screwdriver type precision models' and a little time.
Let me explain my method:
I made a copy of my macbook disk on a USB external hard drive using Disk Utility found in OSX. (It also works under YOSEMITE)
Once this copy, so you have a bootable copy of our complete system on an external USB drive.
If you are cautious, you can test at this stage that your MacBook starts properly on this backup.
He can simply mount the SSD in the MacBook (5 minutes)
Then restarts the macbook still connected with the external drive. (The macbook start automatically on the external USB drive since the SSD is devoid of any data)
After starting the system, simply do the reverse copy operation, ie copy the external USB disk to the blank SSD always with the good old OSX Disk Utility
Then eject and unplug the USB external drive, it reboots the machine that will find its young on the SSD.
The first start is a bit slow because the SSD is not yet the official startup disk of the machine.
(And yes, the mac search your old disk to start)
So we'll just declare the SSD as a new boot drive in the system preferences.
There, that's done, the next reboot your mac will surprise you, believe me!
The big advantage of this method is that it preserves the original disk INTACT macbook in case of trouble during the maneuver. (Eg HS SSD disk backup copy of the corrupt system, power failure etc ...)
One can also take the opportunity to install the hard disk instead of the DVD player with a caddy (adapter for mounting a hard disk instead of the DVD drive apple) available on amazon :-)
It helps to have a hard drive in addition to the mac.
REMEMBER TO INSTALL SOFTWARE ACTIVATING TRIM FOR APPLE MACHINES, or risk seeing the performance degrade over time.
