This Body of Death (Paperback)

Customer Review

I can only join the mostly positive reviews that have preceded me and amaze me with some harsh criticism I read: How can you call such a novel "null" or "indigestible"?

As usual, Elizabeth George delivers a long and dense novel, but as usual, we do not see the time pass and is driven in the maze of history. It's like every time perfectly constructed, with an impeccable plot and perfectly resolved in the end; the "plus" of this novel is perhaps the terrible news item which is narrated in parallel-with the usual sociological finesse Mrs. George-and whose impact in the history appears to us that in the last chapters we ... plunging into a reflection that, to quote another drive, goes far beyond mere thriller. This "news story" has all the more impact that we are no longer in the realm of fiction with the emotional distance that implies and which we remember one of the most sordid British tragedies of recent years.

Fans of Elizabeth George gladly find the usual characters -Lynley and Havers to name qu'eux- in a survey at the height of the previous: captivating murder mystery, sociological and psychological depth. Unquestionably one of the great ladies of the current crime fiction, to read without moderation.
