The question of why Sony is building something, however, can be answered easily. The classic design of a camera - it is compact or SLR - was essentially motivated by the classical interaction between lens, film and viewfinder. This has not changed with digital photography while regarding path - modified sensor not much, but where you put or draufschaut to see what you now photographed, which opens up completely new solutions. The QX100 is therefore only a logical development that completely separates the classic viewfinder from the camera - specifically outsources to smartphone or tablet. That this provides new possibilities to compose images is clear, and so many a setting is with this concept now easily possible that the classical camera has not commanded.
Now the technology. The QX100 is effectively nothing more than a RX100 II, as long as you only look at optical and sensor - which are in fact identical. That the RX100 is an excellent compact, which is not new and undisputed. In theory, so you can take pictures with the QX100 the same quality. Sony shows with the RX100, what you can get out of a 1.8 Zeiss optics and a 1 '' sensor.
Finally, the handling. There will be exciting. While a good Compact is ready to turn on for first photo in a few seconds, so you have to with the QX100 through some steps, the then soon be able to take a minute in total. So you have to:
- A smartphone
- A QX100
- NFC coupling (if available), otherwise start the program manually
- Build WiFi connection (this takes from it all at the longest)
Infect camera smartphone -.
The clamping connection between camera and phone is rock solid and you are not afraid that you will lose either camera or phone, if you do not both notes. The latency between the subject and change display on the smartphone display is not dramatic, but so that you prefer scans stationary subjects. In WiFi "oversupplied" areas cause interference also like drop outs of 5-15 sec. In which the image is no longer updated. That the connection was quite lost, I have not noticed yet on iOS neither Android.
If you want to not just "snap", then would be S and M mode, highly desirable, so you can select the aperture only in the A mode; What, after all, helps in image design the most.
What was on my Xperia smartphone negatively noticed the marked yellow / green tint on the display, which is then also tend to see in the picture yet, on the screen of the smartphone but was annoying. On the iPhone and iPad this was much better.
If you have made a picture, so this will be transferred to the Resolution previously set for Smartphone. If you want the same post on Facebook or elsewhere certainly recommended a smaller resolution to the data volume is not too much to exploit, because; Wi-Fi is of course nothing to the outside, since one uses the WiFi connection to the camera. With inserted micro SD, the image is stored but always in full resolution. Why should you buy a 400-EUR else smartphone camera, if you then Stamps makes great images with it for the Internet.
After a week of intense testing I can never extreme result as "great camera" or get "total flop". My three star motivate as follows:
- The built-in technology is really very good and much cheaper than a RX100II (5 Stars)
- The handling is cumbersome and even worse than that of a compact (1 Star)
(The main culprit in the handling is my opinion not the app, but the general concept)
- Because where you can use the camera in its special form (and no other solution works) is also handling ok (5 Stars)
For me, therefore, are two audiences that will love this camera:
- The "smartphone man" who likes not make a living without the services of this gadget and consequently so will professionally photographed.
- The photo junkie who has a drawer full of cameras for any purpose (the QX100 even has a tripod mount made of metal), and therefore this option may not be missing.
Finally, one should remember that this is the first litter of a completely new concept, and we do not know where the journey still goes. Furthermore, everyone should the 400EUR for QX100 are too much to even look at the QX10, which provides for less than half a 10x zoom with still acceptable quality.
