My personal impressions are the following:
- Quick release works on acclimatization quite well.
- More than enough performance, even in difficult situations (VA bounce flash)
- Meaningful information on the display
- Battery Pack holds unlikely long (even with excessive use)
- Recycling time is pleasantly brief
- Processing top (nothing rattles, shakes, ordinary surfaces)
- Wireless features are cool
- AF light for older Bodies
I tried to build a small studio with the 580EX II.
However, since the compact flashes come very quickly reach their limits.
For very small portraits or small objects still sufficient.
The control is more suitable for snapshots with changing light conditions and then also very fast.
In the studio I use but still a my Bowens.
Those who intend to soon go up a flash should definitely pick up the 580er.
Even the old 580er is preferable to the less powerful new 430er.
The 580EX II can be used wirelessly as master and slave.
Conclusion: strong piece of high-end technology for Canonianer
