Based on many years of positive experience with Nikon cameras of various categories, because I for one like the optics of the camera (matt black - not a "toy" look) and also well located for a compact in the hand (not too small) and well seems durable, I have decided for the Nikon S9300.
According to my tests so far I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by handling and results with the S9300.
Above all again to have a 18x zoom range without three objective change is but a pleasant change. In order to cover the otherwise would have pretty much the entire lens collection with the backpack (with the possible exception of the UWW)! Especially in the higher zoom range and the image stabilization works pleasing effect. A tip for this purpose: the best off the additional digital zoom, is necessary in the rarest of cases and thus an unnecessary compromise in the otherwise good image quality.
Although pixels are not everything, of course, with the resolution of the Nikon S9300 16 megapixels are beautifully detailed images possible. Especially with close-ups or even in macro mode, the camera delivers crisp photos with great detail.
Autofocus compact white in long distances to convince and sits up on exceptions in extreme telephoto almost always good and fast (of course, depending on the selected mode). Fascinating, I find, are recognized as partly even with schummrigsten light faces immediately that I had not expected.
Pleasant I found the stages possible ISO Auto - safe for beginners is also very helpful. Thus, without great settings make also times with less light still good pictures are made without any flashing times. If you select an ISO automatic with maximum value to prevent the same time too noisy images as they are known (the Nikon suggests itself here in the upper regions quite well) by many compacts.
Fun to make the built-in effects. Much of it I had initially held for more gimmicks, which is certainly also true for some effects. Some but I will sure use more often due to the well dissolved intuitive usability. Here as examples selective color choices (black / white images in which only one color is included) in the easy and fast you can experiment with different colors until you find the most effective effect or the panorama function. Since I like the SLR receiving even more elaborate and great panoramas, the setup (tripod, time etc.) but often is not spontaneously possible, nice to know, but that you can capture powerful panoramic shots with a swivel so simple.
To achieve a truly photographed on vacation and traveling (and for this camera is virtually predestined) is the built-in GPS function, a benefit that you might appreciate only when one as I recently tried at old pictures several years yet to remember where exactly This one snapshot was taken (to the great restaurant to find, for example, again, that you wanted to recommend to friends) 'GPS data, of course, is to detect direct and not so complex as after all of manual input.
I have the video function yet can test - the first attempts to make but definitely hope to capture between sometimes moving images - FullHD goodness. Zooming during filming initially requires some dexterity, but also works beautifully liquid, if you have the hang times. The zoom sound in the video is true if it is otherwise quiet a bit disturbing, but really good sound without an external microphone I'm not used by much more expensive cameras.
So my preliminary conclusion for S9300:
+ Great Amenities / Features and 18x zoom = high degree of flexibility in almost every imaginable situation
+ Nikon usual good dynamic range and natural colors (if all else fails helps the built D-Lighting)
+ Pleasant ratio of "pocket-sized", yet a certain robustness
+ Strong battery
+ Price / quality (!) Like, even if the camera is of course not the cheapest alternative
+ High-quality optics in matt black (though a matter of taste)
- Anyone looking for the smallest possible camera is certainly more appropriate miniature toys
- Audible in the quiet location Zoom noise when shooting
- No RAW file format, but probably 90% of the potential buyers will not bother.
Going back to my goals when buying: potential for a) and b) is certainly given in the S9300, especially c) works but unfortunately right away so much that remains to be seen whether I'll get the camera at all much in the finger. :)
In any case, I look forward to extensive testing in the upcoming summer vacation, and certainly the one or other snapshot which would have escaped me until now.
