Customer Review

Hello There,

Basically, there is no perfect camera, the Conclusion of a lasting several years looking for. For me, perfect is that I can do with it in every situation photos, how I see the world and how I feel, very close to that. Everything else is not so important. Image noise. Line pairs. Distortion. Chromatic aberrations. Gimmicks and frills ...

The Nikon 1 V1:

purist, without gimmicks, without dozens of scene modes, without flash, without handle, without meaningful dial without really easy to use, because you have to rummage in the menu.
First there was only a great Grandad, I just could not believe that Nikon dares such a camera to bring out as a system camera, the service was just a nightmare.
It only lacked that Nikon incorporates an official with 150,000 forms, and you can do nothing without revenue stamps (yes, something gabs again ...).

The first days still survives, me clinging only to the speed of the autofocus and the insanely fast moving images, and the high-resolution viewfinder was the only bright spot, in the truest sense of the word. From the noise the camera made her no more than my Nikon P7700, so I wondered what I please just begin with this camera. In my mind I had already checked the V1.

One day, I was once again on photo tour (apparently one of the last times with the V1 ...), I realized that the camera is indeed quite fast to use, in the Scene Auto Selector still brisk. Please how many times I actually rummage around in the menu to adjust the sensitivity to light, and to change the mode? Wiesehr affected me noise? Sorry, but the photos of my parents in the seventies were in fact cruel (we had in fact always very simple cameras, but it does not liegts). Noise free? Nope.

The noise of the V1 is really very fine, and by multi-NR (the camera is yet sauschnell, so we would have found a field of application ...) can be the images actually quite good denoise without the details would suffer too much. The AF is a dream. Sits, especially with the 10-100 and the 10-30 lens.

The Guide for Multi Frame NR: in Photoshop
File-> Skripten-> files in batch then invite Mark planes
Edit then automatically align> levels
then convert Layers> Smartobjekte-> In Smart Object
last Layers> Smartobjekte-> Stapelmodus-> Median
finished.

No, the camera is far from being perfect. The perfect camera does not exist anyway. I am glad to have no scene modes, and feel (I was afraid that I fall off the camera) does not matter anymore since the neoprene hand strap of meymoon / JJC. Best shot I hardly used, at least I can anyway to 60 frames per second make (but only 1/2 second or 1 second), then I can pick and choose the images, and do not need the camera. Motion Snapshot is nice, but pointlessly.

The speed of the camera and the accuracy of the AF: Photography is simply a pleasure. The color rendering and the most accurate white balance as well.
Moreover the camera can be had used for very little money ... I got me again anyway and bought again and again. Have two V1, J1 and J3 a plus 5 lenses.
The Nikon 1 series is coooool and simply convenient. Rock solid camera, just more fun taking photos.

Best Regards
Christian

a little time before: the Addendum:

Hello There,

To anticipate the end of the review: the camera is a stunner! White balance and color rendition sit almost always, the dynamic range is far more than I dared to wish me, the speed of image processing, the continuous shooting, and the AF is simply amazing, the accuracy of the AF is simply a dream (Goodbye Pentax K-5 .. .)

Contrary to my assumption, the image quality is not better than the Nikon Coolpix P7700 I must now say (well, I now have a 18.5 / 1: 1.8 and a 10-100 lens instead of 10-30) that one for so relatively small sensor is terrific. Pictures finally rattenscharf and plastic that you think you can walk around it, it's really fun with the small V1. Display as the viewfinder are a dream, the latter leaves me sometimes still believe that it is an optical ;-)

Due to the dynamic range - black as well as white image areas mountains in reality a lot of details because I bring the dynamics of my RAW files in Photomatix to advantage - is the lack of automatic bracketing negligible. A panorama mode does not need to get, and handheld night shots (Multi Frame NR) are quite easy to denoise in retrospect, while maintaining maximum details as the color noise of the camera is quite decent and no details are vermatscht (I-camera NR off basically)

The operation of the camera is indeed menu-heavy, but that's ok, after all, I use the automatic modes quite often than initially assumed, and rummage around in the rare menu.

Since I like black and white Scan, I'm also a Raw and JPEG fine, and place the Picture Control on a Monochrome, so I have a raw and a black and white jpeg. The latter I use rarely, but I can imagine how the finished picture in B / W would look reasonably.

For completeness, I'll let my review stand down, the way I think finding and initial confusion / frustration / Erbostheit may perhaps can be traced.
Best Regards,

Christian

for some time before it: the original review

I had the last time the review repeatedly flipped / modified / changed again ... because the camera one hand disappoint me of the performance (speed and accuracy) ago delighted in image quality a little, and at the same time whether their cumbersome operation and missing features incensed. Basically: I so ambivalent towards the camera feel, I like the camera easily and this can not justify rationally ....

In terms of image quality, which is not really about the lies of the P7700, me the camera leaves ambiguous: the image quality is ok, but not that of a conventional system camera such as the NEX - I had the 3N, and was picture Qualitatively few steps above the Nikon 1 V1 ... I do not really see an improvement to P7700, because I want a viewfinder, I take the P7800, the zoom range is 10-100mm lens even when not really larger than in the P7700, also a zoom lens is always a trade-off and a larger zoom factor diminishes increasingly the image quality.

Then again: the autofocus is so fast (sorry, sauschnell ....) and, moreover, precisely because even stayed away from me the spit. Then even the color accuracy and white balance, sitting easily, that's just great! With respect to which a point for the V1. And then: the image sequences at full resolution of 30 or 60 RAW + JPEG make purely theoretical Sweep Panoramas at full resolution (must halt be stitched on PC) possible. Likewise Multi Frame NR at night (I prefer when I am out of a camera's internal solution dependent and its many SMART algorithms.

For Multiframe NR: take a program like Arcsoft Low Light NR or Photomatix Pro. Then, the photos should have to be aligned (they do mostly if done freehand) best yet align with Photoshop images. Load the images with Bridge as layers in Photoshop, let there align, save the levels again as individual pictures: procedure. Then they can be put together in Photomatix or Low Light NR to a noise-free, and really detailed picture. Goes well with 6400 ISO, but please turn off the in-camera noise reduction at all costs. Antighosting is of course also possible on request.

It should be noted that the color noise is quite there, but discreetly and homogeneously. So no pixel mud. The pictures are rich in detail, despite the subtle noise. The image quality may be as already mentioned daytime hardly differ from my P7700 - so far disappointed the larger image sensor rather, even at high ISO, there was not the difference I had expected.

Thus, I wonder after all, what target group the Nikon 1 system now really responsive. During the day, I come from the P7700, and that fits in any case in my pocket; at night I like to take the V1, which can be fast moving images clearance for gimmicks, as mentioned above, and it is, even if you're too lazy to tow a tripod, like me, rewarded by detailed and largely de-noised images.

Real criticisms are the dial, which does not allow quick access to P / A / S / M, but only photo / video / moving Schnappsch ... / BestShotSelector offers. Then at all the menu-heavy operation, missing bracketing, No Quick Menu, no quick access to vital functions such as ISO / AF / metering etc. and exposure as a button is far less convenient than its own wheel. In this sense the operation is on the verge of settled disaster because too purist.

I like my V1 rather of completely irrational reasons: it is processed extremely wertig, has beautiful forms, can be good attack, the viewfinder image is a true delight, the photos are exposed correctly and useful even in fully automatic 95%. For the remaining 5% I have my brain Kastl endeavor, so actually a camera with which you can have a lot of joy and good results without having we must rummage menu wild.

I would probably not buy the camera again, even if I like them, because as cameras with quite outstanding features I can the Nikon P7700 / P7800 recommend (vari-angle display, fast aperture 7.1fach Zoom), and the Pentax MX-1 ( brilliant, very bright optics, folding screen, manually navigate to the most parameters that are taken in div. automatic modes. For example, night snapshot with a given ISO value ...).

I hope I could help with my admittedly chaotic review and would be delighted if you could click 'helpful' or 'unhelpful'.
All-time good light,

Christian
