The 80s were a musically unusual time for Neil Young. There were some `komische` albums on the market (for example, the synthesizer sound to" Trans "in 1982), which were not accepted by many fans and therefore were not very successful. Thus, "Freedom" is a kind of comeback, although Neil was of course never gone.
Here we go (very impressive) with Live Acoustic version of `Rockin` in the free World` and stops with the Hard Rock version of the same song. `Crime in the City (Sixty To Zero Part I) is another highlight. The piece I find very exciting and it is in almost nine minutes never boring. `Don`t Cry 'is just as strong, here we hear this Neil Young" shredding guitar ". `Eldorado` sounds like Mexico. :-) Even the cover of `On broadway` I find success. `Wrecking ball` is very fragile, especially the vocals of Neil. A nice quiet piece is `Hangin` on a limb`. The same applies to `Someday`. `No more` is quite fast with a great melody. As mentioned before, we will dismiss the hard rockers `Rockin` in the free World`.
Overall, "Freedom" very varied, we hear the quiet `Acoustic Neil` exactly how the rock artists. Even at 61 minutes running time never a dull moment. Therefore, there can only be 5 star for one of his better, if not best, albums.
