- Autofocus
- Sharpness
- Image stabilizer
- Haptic
My history: Since my 5D III seems to me my Canon 24-70 2.8 L before somehow mushy. My Canon 70-300 4.0 L is sharper in every respect, what made me think and open to new ideas.
The Canon 24-70 II is too expensive. So the attempt by Tamron - despite many negative reports.
First of all: switching from Canon 24-70 L will have to set priorities to decide:
- The much maligned Autofocus: For me, he sits there, where it should. Tested at 24, 50 and 70mm.
Lucky! Serial number of the lens is 0281xx Model A007E
As the owner of an old Canon 24-70L I was, however, on the speed of AF negative
surprised not slowly but significantly slower than the USM of Canon and noisier.
For me, the main drawback of this lens. Other transfer passengers will be able to sympathize with me.
- To assess the sharpness I can only draw the comparison with the Canon 24-70L i: Yes, it is clear
sharper at 5d3. Test images were a brick wall, the garden and the famous recording Siemens Star
- The image stabilizer does not have torn me away. I just briefly even asked whether it is active.
He actually calms the image, which of course does not really stand so serious at 24-70mm like a
Telezoom beyond 100mm. From a "nailed finder" but can not speak.
As is my Canon 70-300L effective. For me it is not a knock-out criterion, especially since a high light intensity
is available. In addition, he needs a little moment, until he has the image stable.
I had hoped for something more. Not bad, but no revelation.
- Haptic:
82mm not interpret straight out on a cute lens. Although "plastic" is here apparently high
been worked: inner tube very carefully and without clearance fit, bayonet well. The surface is matt
held and I like it better than my old Canon.
The sun visor fits accurately, snaps noticeably and firmly and not budge after that! The
Shading is the 70mm range is not as good as the old Canon - conditionally set by the counter
Barrel movement while zooming. A liner with felt o. Ä. Missing, but fine grooves are incorporated,
the Streulich to tame.
Unfortunately, the tube scrapes when zooming significantly more than the Canon, where the zoom even after many years
almost like butter ran. Also it is difficult to move.
The "Lock" button in my opinion unnecessarily: With my Tamron, the tube itself moves at
Shaking no piece outwards / down. Maybe the whole thing is facilitated common after some time and thus
the useful lock button.
For me, the question was: should I want to use new, expensive filters to buy and I can live with the autofocus.
My opinion: Ungern !! But considering the price difference for the Canon 24-70L II I do it, especially since I
get in the main discipline, the image quality, a noticeable improvement. Thanks for good price
my old Canon, the additional expenses limited almost exclusively to the filter.
We can only hope that the Tamron operates similarly reliably for a long time ...

EDIT:
Unfortunately, I have the lens despite initial "euphoria" must zureckgeben / want. First of all: It was not a front or back focus. Even I could not notice any problems with the near-edge AF fields of 5d3, but:
"Too many blur pictures that will definitely not go to my account" also with the time but then more and more angry: "The Canon lenses over something cozier autofocus"
- Who does not turn off the image stabilizer when he does not need him, produces a lot of waste in the form of vague images. Unfortunately, this blurring is quite discreet and falls on the camera screen hardly - but probably at home monitor. Of course it's a good idea to use the image stabilizer only if necessary, but such. As my Canon 70-300 L IS looks good-natured across the aktiierten stability and produces no blurs.
- Even at slow shutter speeds from the hand I scored without image stabilization (ajar for propped up, etc etc ...) better results than with stability.
- The AF does not draw fast enough to. Man could also fasten to the camera, but since I can use the 5d3 a very powerful AF and already used with several lenses have (Canon 24-105, canon 24-70I, Canon 70-300), I know, that the Tamron compared is not quite as fast and precise focusing. Who does not know otherwise, it will not notice, because it is whining at a fairly high level - but hey: At a certain price range, the claims are holding well above!
