It's my first rear luggage carrier from Thule, of which I already have two excellent to händelnde bicycle umbrella holder.
I bought due to the manufacturer's website and a favorable market price of about 280, - to get even cheaper now -. However, the recommended retail price is 349, -!
Positives:
- The first assembly is quite easy
- The basic build quality seems good
- The originally perceived as a low purchase price
- A single mountain with 2,4er tires can be attached passable, one then draws the lashing straps better over the plastic rails of the tire receiving
- The folding mechanism works well enough
Negatives: (and unfortunately that's a lot of points)
- The wheels can not secure! It is indeed a "backup" -Kunststoffmutter here that you used earlier for the rear wheel - but uses nothing if you together the frame on which the mounting arms hanging by simply unscrewing two shall, plastic nuts from (lockable!) Base support with the wheels in no time can remove !!! ??? Absolutely not thought through.
- The rails for the tire / wheel are too short and not extensible / customizable. Thus I was able to secure a 28 "fitness bike and a 28er Peugeot Damenrad reasonably stable only with great difficulty and six other Zurrbändern (!) - So things go not even the support is rather narrow / small so you need to be fumble somewhat since the.. Fitness bike with the front sprocket struck on the mounting frame I had to advance a few centimeters, which has is more difficult with the tires recordings
- Cheapest lashing straps for securing the tire and thus an unspeakable fumbling during loading of the carrier or corrections of the charged carrier - dirty hands definitely incl.
- Theoretically can the lashing straps at two locations reinpfriemeln (10cm spacing), but they are by short wheel rails almost always in the wrong place. And the lashing straps should be mounted only after dismounting holder at the second position or better "reinzupfriemeln". I bought additional bands and mounted so that at least a reasonably secure attachment of the front wheel by two bands is possible - although this does not work optimally. I secure the wheels with Velcro straps in addition to the upright frame, then it will be acceptable. Even my two Thule roof racks that are six and ten years old have the indestructible and easy-to-use Kunststoffschnellverschlüße who have so far each wheel (no matter how thin or thick) installed in an absolutely safe and stable also the support rails were continuously adjustable. Perfect. At 350, - recommended retail price lashing straps are absolutely unacceptable.
- The rotating mechanism of the large plastic wing nut for clamping on the ball head is also only sufficient to operate - are accessed repeatedly by the base frame and I doubt that women, due to the somewhat unfortunate operation can exert enough force. Thule has here better mechanisms in the program.
- Ultimately the carrier is not collapsible, as also sometimes alleged. We must frame and base support unscrew (loosen plastic nuts, pulling U-holding iron, fold down frame and plastic nuts because otherwise imminent loss retighten). Not huge effort but much more complicated compared to a real folding mechanism.
- Because of numerous drawbacks: bad P / L ratio even for 260, -, very bad at 350, -
CONCLUSION:
The carrier is not recommended for frequent users because of its fiddly handling during installation, securing and loading.
Also of concern for users with expensive wheels due to the non-existent security.
For the casual user entry carrier can for a market price of around 260, - indeed be interesting, but I think the price / performance ratio for a maximum of sufficient rather worse.
Who, if only 600 - to 1,000, - paid for a hitch and only 500, - outputs per wheel, ABSOLUTELY 100 should - spend more at the main criticisms by a higher-quality Thule carrier eradicate. These are available in the program.
In 10-12 years of use and only 2maliger usage per year to get to 8 installing / removing a year and thus to around 100 during the whole period. A madness when it saves a few mice.
Unfortunately I made the mistake (motto: I do not need him so often) and annoyed about it.
I hope that I could help the reason rethinks one or the other his (favorable) buying again.
Even the Euroway G2 920/921 fixes almost all of my Kritikpunktefür 320, - market price and will buy from me in front next vacation.
From my perspective, my valued carrier 2-3 stars is to assess - but ultimately I just decided to go for three.
