Suites for Keyboard (Handel) (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Seven four-part piano suite from the very extensive opus by George Frideric Handel, Keith Jarrett, NY recorded in autumn 1993 in Purchase. Although the Jarrett-ears are "calibrated" rather jazzy lines, wild and expressive, sometimes atonal passages or acting on gentle, soft, lyrical sounds and you have nigh become accustomed to be humming along or Mitjaulen, can his rather strict, factory faithful interpretation of baroque piano suites gain something something. If that was not simply lies on Jarrett's game, or at least to the beautiful works by Handel, which have been selected for this CD, I can not judge. Anyway, let these pieces all hear very pleasant, stroking the tired soul and penetrate into the heart and mind, without being trivial or boring. The suites by Handel - partly composed for the harpsichord, but luckily played by Jarrett on piano - fit in my opinion better to Jarrett's style than about the Preludes and Fugues by Shostakovich (op.87). Chance has the feeling to hear a thing or motive ever been to one of his solo live concerts.
On their own, resulting in free improvisation works by Jarrett, especially on the long pieces, this music does not reach, however. Handel Handel and Jarrett Jarrett.
