Than two weeks after I had reported a minor bug in the app, Philips has updated the app to the AppStore.
That's what I call customer service!
---
I actually looked 4s a dock for the iPhone that allows the iPhone also it without missing a shell to accept dock - with the 3Gs in its rubber sheath was still with the Logitech dock that I had, with the 4s, but not more , And I came across the Philips clock radio.
Comparable earlier models came in customer reviews is not quite as well off, so I was a bit skeptical - but that was unnecessary as it turned out.
You can also use the radio without iPhone, but then no program keys for different channels, since they are only using the free "Home Studio" App of Philips available. The search must then serve for changing channels.
That to me is not a flaw, because I have the iPhone in general at night in this dock by the bed to load it, and during the day - and without iPhone - I do not need the radio.
It is handy that really each envelope can be left on your iPhone if these can reach the dock connector - also very thick shells are not a problem.
Compatible with the Philips is the manual says:
- IPod touch (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation)
- IPod classic
- IPod nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation)
- IPhone 4S
- IPhone 4
- IPhone 3GS
- IPhone 3G
- IPhone
Even the iPhone 5 is expected can be operated with the separate 32- to 9-pin adapter in that but I could not test for lack of iPhone 5.
Unlike docks where the iPhone is plugged from above and waddled (what then want to make an adapter and even larger iPhone 5 probably very few) supported the iPhone here on the back of a hard rubber buffer, the iPhone is with a slight inclination towards the rear without any wobbling.
The dock connector is movable and can tilt slightly forward, so that the onset of compatible iPhones and iPods is no problem.
The app can be sure when the Nanos not be used, but playback and charging is thus given.
One needs the app the way not great to look for:
- Were they, simply push NOT the iPhone and it appears an indication which settles a with another tap on the App Store at the appropriate place.
- If the app is already installed, the following message appears when plugging that the radio would launch the app. Tap once and it runs. Practically, if you have hidden the app on a more rearward homescreen in a group.
In addition, can be connected as the source and selected via the selector switch via plug another device.
The sound is full and clear, with a neat Bass (the it to the bed but hardly needed). Tone controls, there are not, but are not necessary.
The reception is in spite of the usual standard wire wire antenna in order, if one fixes the antenna with a pin vertically on the wall.
Activate two separate wake-up times, the single one and even without an inserted iPhone can offer me as a "re-sleeper" the necessary "Now is high time" signal. A snooze function is also available. About the iPhone app is another wake-up times and individual signals can be adjusted. In addition, one can thus fall asleep to any music and be woken up again with the last played track. In the other alarms can be used to wake even a specific song from the music library.
The iPhone app does not win a prize, but serves its purpose without any problems.
The brightness of the display can be adjusted in three stages, with even the brightest level is sufficiently dark as not to disturb the sleeper. The brightness is just enough light in broad daylight or artificial light. The numbers are large enough to recognize them without having to grope at night yet the glasses.
Conclusion:
No high-end device, but solid and without quirks.
Not exactly cheap, but also not cheap goods.
Overall, a good buy.
