It recounts with gusto the lifestyle of the villagers, their customs, their mentality, their depravity. It highlights the springs that allow one to face the horrors of life using expedients morally reprehensible, others to wade in a hard to access decent living by earning the respect of others. But unfortunately bad luck awaits them. Here it is question of crime, vendetta, death, but also of redemption and forgiveness.
In the light of this great novel, we learn about the way of life of this population nestled in the deep south of Italy, these clans, the importance of religion and its influence. The characters are beautifully brushed, very well described scenes and emotion regularly flush the turning of pages that never tires of turning over and over again!
I recommend it.
