Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is written as the newspaper of the beautiful Loreley, recounting his trip to Europe with her friend Dorothy. Loreley is a gold digger without education but much less silly than it suggests his gentlemen anxious to "do his education." It shows indeed a demonic intelligence to extort money. His friend Dorothy incisive humor and gives the story its most exhilarating replicas. This novel has been a huge success upon its publication in 1925 and resulted in a suite: But they marry brunettes centered on the character of Dorothy.
The book, short and easy to read, is a perfect illustration of the life of "flappers", these modern young women from the 20s to hair cut short and more liberated mores (alcohol, cigarettes, jazz).
