A very important info yet for Windows 8.1 users:
The Edimax was developed before the release of Windows 8.1 and is approved only to Windows 8. If you put him in a clueless Win 8.1 PC the computer crashes ("Attempted execute of non executable memory"). The problem can be solved by first loads the latest drivers on the website of Edimax and installed and only after inserting the adapter, however. Due to the driver issue but there is one star deduction.
Update:
I have now tested the Wi-Fi adapter for several months and have come to the conclusion that I have to deduct a star. As for me, the connection was always sporadically extremely slow to the router in the 5 GHz band, I've tried a number of other USB-AC adapter WLAN. In particular, Zyxel USB AC600 is technically comparable with the Edimax, a little bigger, runs more stable - but sometimes even to find the 5 GHz network problems. The signal strength is displayed, however, very similar. The achievable top speed was also similar. All in all I would rate the Zyxel just a little better - but it was also more expensive.
Interestingly, both drives have significantly fewer problems when in the driver settings (Device Manager -> Select driver -> Properties) is limited activity on the 5 GHz band. It took me some research cost that out, but then showed the Edimax no longer lags. Nevertheless, together with the above Windows 8.1 bug already some quirks that justify two star deduction. If that do not mind, can access yet.
For those that want to have the best possible reception, should rather buy a 1200 adapter with multiple external antennas. Here the choice is limited but at the adapters with 5GHz AC standard. Very neat runs with me Netis WF2190 AC 1200th
