Those like me who is counting on digital music in the form of MP3, OGG or FLAC knows the problem: good sound cards are difficult - if not impossible for laptops - to find and what the built-in hardware supplies can not be saved even with the best amplifiers , Therefore, since a few years ago I put on DA converter with USB port. My first model was a TASCAM US-122, which, however, brought with it massive disadvantages: hum, which I had to filter out heavy losses, inexpensive processing and bitchy driver. This year, I therefore decided to invest in a new model. I Sonicate especially small rooms, my first choice fell on the Teufel Concept B 200. However, in USB mode, there was a massive disturbing cracking and small dropouts, so that particularly quieter music always sounded a little dusty disk needle. Annoyed I swapped my device to (at this point a big compliment to the outstanding Devil Service) and decided to give the V-DAC II a chance. To make it short: a better D / A converter, I have not had in the fingers. The sound is clear, powerful and completely free from noise. I mean, to hear a little smack of loudness, which I only good to come with my smaller rooms. With good headphones you can use the V-DAC easily live without amplification. Who has not heard it, will not believe how multidimensional the little box knows how to separate highs and lows. Based on my previous experience with D / A converters, I was surprised especially by the sound warmth. Irrespective of the noise of the Concept proposes Musical Fidelity's long-established competitors devil here by far. To best advantage is the V-DAC but only when it serves a good amplifier. It may better and more expensive D / A converters out there give - but who is looking in the price range up to 500 Euro has most likely no setup, which the V-DAC II did not know fully unlock.
PS: Since Musical Fidelity offers a separate power supply I originally went on the assumption that the V-DAC would be delivered without power supply and perhaps even similar to the US-122 would be supplied directly by USB. But this is not so, a standard power supply is included.
