+ The radio is small and light, my inaccurate kitchen scale is 160 grams including batteries and MW antenna
+ It runs with readily available AA batteries
++ The batteries should last "forever". (If you use an hour a day, months. Exact statement I can not do, since the first sentence is still batteries in use.)
+ It also runs on batteries
++ It can charge batteries
++ A mini USB input enables the use of USB power supplies, or laptops, etc. (a cable and / or an AC adapter is not included)
o the small speakers sound like I expected: it provides good voice, much better and louder than a phone Speakerphone
+ Reception FM: good
+ Shortwave reception: good, with supplied wire antenna probably even better
- I have found no way to curb the acoustic often occur during shortwave noise to reduce a whistling for example by reducing the heights
- Receiving medium wave: below average (without the supplied Aufsteckantennne virtually no reception)
- Receiving longwave: bad (without the supplied Aufsteckantennne virtually no reception)
+ Antenna for MW + LW rotatable
o the antenna for MW + LW must be specially mounted
o the belt loop on the device can not detach themselves. But it does not take on too much and all I've never been disturbed.
- In the supplied bag (also with belt loop), the device will only fit without MW antenna
o unnecessary but nice addition: built-in thermometer with temperature on the display
+ Great Funktionsvielfallt
++ ETM (automatic find all available channels of a tape) and
o the wheel on the side to be fun. The rest of the Bedienug is so la la, but with instructions to learn. Operation in the dark above average heavy. The lack of key illumination would be bearable if the pretty little buttons were arranged for me remarkably logical and I could feel the functions but without reading the very small key label I do not get along.
+ Key lock also applies stove switched off and prevents accidental switching.
For the successor, I would like to see:
* Better Reception AM
* RDS
* DAB +
* Carrying bag with space for the necessary accessories
Conclusion: this radio is suitable to the local radio service to listen on the spot, for a trip receiver but now missing the "fodder". Say there is in Europe no longer broadcasts the remote receiving on shortwave. The German long wave transmitters are muted end of 2014, the German medium-wave transmitter end of 2015. For this, the hardware of course, nothing.
Without the poor AM reception I would have awarded 4 stars. The 5 star I can save on a fully-rounded concept (pocket!) And an intuitive being sensed, manual-free handling.
How it looks on other continents and for other languages, I would like to read in other reviews.
Addition:
I was now with the radio in Turkey (Antalya). Unfortunately, I was the last interesting for me in German information broadcast by Österrreich 1 on shortwave 6155 kHz (every day 7:00 - 8:15 clock) is not received, not even scraps of language. In Berlin I receive this frequency outstanding.
Even the BBC World Service - Cyprus medium wave transmitter 1323 kHz - I could hear neither day nor night.
