Since I am not a fan of technical data and their bullets, I put just once related to practice going on and count on what I noticed:
There's not much to complain about, straight from the start that really bothers me only attached to the bottom and completely open HDMI port. Would it really asking too much here to mount a small cover that protects it somewhat? Especially when the camera is turned off somewhere (self-timer), the dirt will accumulate very quickly here with security. Not good and really an absolute no-go! I do not know what developers think at something - every phone has uncovered connections today. Point two is the missing manual. Meanwhile indeed normal that something is no longer included, but annoys me every time anew. Why do I have as a paying end user please fire up my laser printer and print 163 pages themselves? I just simply like something in his hand (which is why I also buy CDs and upload any songs from the Internet) and wants to really understand my equipment, so I read something just always through.
Where we have the first positive point would be: the operation of the camera is more than child's play. Anyone who ever had a digi-cam in his hand, will cope right away with the X5 to have printed and read even without the manual. Upon request, all menu items are explained in the display, so that you can really get started even without prior experience in a few minutes.
The sensor has me already equal fully convinced. Somehow yes walked past the development of the compact to me, but I'm still flabbergasted, what brings out these camera itself impossible shooting situations! Especially in low light, the images have so many details - that you have previously not seen with the eye. Absolute lowlight-ready and for me the perfect successor to the F31 / 31 by Fuji. I would argue that this situation very quickly and get around the X5 will do well to tip, as then, the Fuji! Even at high Isozahlen the recordings are absolutely useful and much more than a temporary solution along the lines-better than even non-noisy!
In daylight, it behaves well. Even if I repeat myself, I did not know what a good Compact can afford today! The pictures are just great, sharp, rich in detail and at least clean for me exposed and processed internally.
Even difficult situations such as backlit subjects, people in front of windows, photographed from dark to light and vice versa, the HX5 copes almost perfectly. Especially for beginners who may not know how to prevent, for example, that people appear in the image not only as a black outline against a window, mode the camera is in the "Intelligent Auto" a reliable companion. As I said, virtually all shooting situations are analyzed fully automatically on request and mastered perfectly well in 99% of cases.
For the occasional user also important is the fact that all the menu items and their functions are described in the display again. Likewise it behaves in the individual programs as each option will be briefly explained, so that everybody knows what program that makes / does exactly.
Nice gimmick is also the panorama feature. Operate the camera in video mode, press record and swivel according to the arrow on the display. Is finished - from the video recording out - the panoramic image. And this completely without (!) Transitions or edges. Simply brilliant in between. Clear who deals extensively with panoramas and nodal point, is also here what can complain, yet the function is perfect for users who with such things not just want to deal!
By pressing a button, the camera comes in the way, the Hi-Speed mode, where up to 10 frames / sec. are shot in series. Also for a compact very remarkable! Also in the video mode can be reached by a simple push of a button to the right of the display (red trigger) and already kicks off the camera - without having to press again before the shutter button. Then again simply press the red trigger and stop recording. All have called without any submenu.
The quality of the videos is absolutely satisfactory for me - for a still camera and a compact one at that! Even zooming during recording is possible (can not 5D) and also on a 46 "TV (Full HD) look at the photographs from super Regarding converging lines and distortion at the edge -. I film certainly no buildings and in all other situations falls that but do not give up. Hi, we are talking still of a compact camera! The sound is also alright, if one does not drop the fingers of your left hand on the microphone. Of course, not to be compared with a real camcorder, is but loose at the level of a Canon FS100 - and as I said, it's a photo camera with video function, which is often forgotten in reviews.
GPS and compass are nice gimmicks which are probably rarely or not at all used and disabled to extend the battery life for me. The battery lasts way, surprisingly well (lt. Manual 150 min Video / 350 photos), I have trotzden three ordered the reserve. However, not the original, since me over 50.00 EUR are simply too expensive. For a day trip, a charge should be enough.
That the X5 - very Sony-atypical - get along well with XD cards, for me is a long overdue step in the right direction!
+ Processing, optics / haptics
+ Weight and handling
+ Panoramic Funkton
+ Very good video function (for a camera!)
+ Very good image quality
- User manual
- Open HDMI port on the bottom
My conclusion:
I am flabbergasted and had already caught myself wondering why I ever walk around with a DSLR - but good, bezhieht also only the normal images. With proper photographs and shootings, the X5 is clearly referred to courts. But for normal use on holiday and traveling and slideshows on your TV, it is really absolutely great! I can really recommend it to anyone who is looking for a small, simple camera that delivers image quality 1A. And as I said, it always surprises me when I see what she brings out of impossible situations - this is really great!
