For me, the intermediate ring variant was not an option without automatic. By there missing electronic communication between lens and camera, the iris is in many digital lenses not adjustable, so you are forced to photograph / film with an open aperture. At full aperture in turn, with fixed focal lengths of the better varieties (especially those who Aperture 2, 1.8 or less create), with intermediate rings even the most minimal movement with sometimes violent Rack Focus connected. In addition, the image with intermediate ring at very open aperture toward edge zusehens washed and blurred!
In the model with automatic one is not completely delivered this problem. The aperture can be adjusted and the autofocus principle usable. In less open aperture at the image quality and clarity and in good light conditions to win are very appealing images possible. Although the autofocus works, but you have to stand close enough in front of the subject and remain calm, otherwise the automatic focus to death. With intermediate ring, the shots are a little darker and it also affects the ideal exposure time. It takes halfway decent lighting conditions, otherwise you will not be happy with intermediate ring. And yes, these are cutting back, but they are in the nature of things.
Conclusion: With enough light pleasing results with the intermediate rings are possible. Who wants to be prepared for the worst-case scenario macro to go without huge sums for special macro lenses, is seen not badly served. For comparable low-light shooting and better shooting, you will have to look at but to correct macro lenses.
